I am 6 months pregnant and been diabetic for 28 years, I have coped well with my bloods so far through my pregnancy but this last week I have had 0.1 and 0.2 ketones I am really stressing that these ketones could harm the baby, I cant find any details about what level of ketones can cause harm to the baby. This is my first baby and I went through IVF to get pregnant. I seem to be getting ketones when my blood is 11-12. The ketones only occur in the morning and I get ride of them quickly with lots more insulin and drinking water, can anyone give reassurance and advise.

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
Probably no need o worry, but try Lois Jovanovic's site. There are questions and answers there. She's world renowned in the field of treating diabetic mothers.

How did your second pregnancy compare to your first pregnancy? My first pregnancy wasn't too bad. My biggest complaint is that I was tired all day, every day. I gained a total of 35 lbs. I didn't have any complications.. I had the epidural & I had a vaginal delivery.

Sorry, A bit late, hope you are doing well! ketones in pregnancy are not good, especially in teh 1st 3 months. I am not awware of a safe level (not saying that there isn't one, just that I don't know what iit is!) if your BG is creeping up to 11, I would get an appointment with teh diabetic midwife, and get some advice.
I have had 2 (naughty!!!) children, and have been T1 since the age of 4. I seemed to be at the hodpital all teh time, going to check up, and gettig frankly daft advice from teh consultant, BUT the midwife was fantastic. She understood how difficult it cand be, but at the same time, helped me improve my control. I have never ha such a brilliant HbA1C. If you are getting ketones, go and seek help.
This isn't supposed to be a doom ad gloom post. I am not saying that baby is being harmed, but everything you can possibly do to help the little one has got to be done. As I said earlier, now you are 6 months, teh real danger time has passsed, so all should be well, but uit really is worth getting everything checked out, and get all the help you can take care of both of you.

All the best of luck, J

Oh, and for me, 1st pregnancy, awful, got pre eclamsia and blew up like a balloon, 2nd time around, great, only complaint was being called a "typical diabetic" with that roll of the eyes, despite have HbA1C in the 5s. Baby was big, but healthy!
