Just a question for other type 1's! I develop ketones over night with normal bg. Just wondering if anyone else does this? I know you can develop ketones due to lack of food, but this would only be a maximum of 10 hours?

WElcome to the forums.

How high are your ketones? I eat a relatively low carb diet and can easily run up to 0.6 ketones .....

I've never tested first thing in the morning, I'll give it a go and post my results.

But I don't think ketones ~0.5mmol/l normally are anything to worry about, even for those who aren't low carb. I assume you have basal coverage overnight. I get ketones in the mid-2s after long rides (which is 10h of activity, though I am eating, just not enough to cover my energy output.)

fwiw I did a finger prick ketone test this morning, having not eaten for ~10h overnight (though I did have some nuts last thing, so the protein may have taken a while to digest), feeling reasonably well, and not having done any exercise yesterday.

Ketones = 0.7 mmol/l, Blood glucose = 6.5 mmol/l.
