Ketones

I think you may have found your answer. I also think it's they type of carb. One rich tea biscuit, as far as i remember, is quite low in carbs but what it is made of would send me high.

The sticks will measure any ketones in the urine. They don't differentiate between fat burning and ketoacidosis.

I have the darkest purple whenever I test and have done for quite a while.

I have a feeling I need to stick to my little carb counter for a better control of carbs, My fitness pall seems to have them way too low. This could be why I have no ketones as my body is just using what I am eating. Gutted! Thought I was doing so well too.

I think you're right. I feel gutted as I have worked hard and worked out my carbs before I ate, but the carb counter is wrong. My little gen carb counter only arrived today, so from now on I will work to that and not my fitness pall.

Thanks for letting me know. I was going to use that site but if they think beetroot is carb free, something is wrong.

I thought it was brilliant, so easy to use and you could keep a check on all you were eating so easily, but it's figures are wrong and so rather than helping it's giving me false figures when I need them to be spot on for diabetes and weight loss control.

Hi Defren! I'm a bit confused....I get Ketones in my urine but my GP has told me to get medical advice if they go above trace as they could mean something nasty above that so why are ketones good for you but bad for me as we have the same illness?
I'm not being funny or nothing but I'm just puzzled.

If you haven't already read the links given by ALi H.
Ketones and high glucose levels (and sometimes ketones and vomiting but fairly lower glucose levels) are dangerous in people with insulin deficiency. Ketoacidosis is a serious condition.

I bought some Ketostix today, and according to the reading I have no Ketones in my urine. How could this be. Am I still not eating too much and my body is only using what I am eating? Today I have had very, very little, it's odd.

That doesn't necessarily mean that you're not in ketosis. Even if you are spilling ketones, the level varies throughout the day, and you can easily dilute them out by drinking too much.

I drink too much diet coke, that's the only reason that wiflib gets deeper purple than me...

Boro, you have been a huge inspiration to me, as well as a great help since I came here. I have to tell you today, for whatever reason, I just feel so defeated. I have put a post in the soapbox have your say forum, as I just can't help feeling nothing I do or try is making any difference, and I am going to get the things I dread the most - complications. Why is this such a horrible condition?

Dude, no-one can say that you won't get complications, but I absolutely believe that if you carry on doing what you've been doing (with the exception of eating too much beetroot) then you'll minimise the chances of something nasty happening in the future.

Ketostix are notoriously unreliable (wiflib's are obviously well past their use by date), don't take 'em too seriously.

I just want to defend the site, as it was me who pointed Defren to it. The reason it said beetroot had no carbs was because she said she had ONE gram of it. I suspect everything is probably pretty much carb free at that weight, even sugar  In reality, it has beetroot carbs higher than the little gem book. In my experience it measures most items the same as the packaging.

Of course this is all my own opinion, and I will continue to use the site as it is working very well for me.

No defense needed honestly :D I have said it is a brilliant site. The value of carbs was off on the site, but yes  so was my weights. I have managed to alter the value and my weights, and it does look more realistic now. ~~~ Skulks off for being a p***t

HA ha!! Thanks guys. I'll carry on with the registration.

Boro, you can make all the excuses you like. The fact remains that you are obviously not as disciplined as I am.
