Does anyone know why being in ketosis can, for some people, cause a rise in cholesterol levels?

I am not concerned about my C levels, just need to understand. TIA.

Hi,

Have you come across any of the Ken Sikaris you tube vids on cholesterol?
He goes into this in some depth. I will try and find a link for you... I think they are well worth watching. :)

Ah yes, here you go:

Thanks Brunneria, will grab a Cupar and watch, much appreciated.

I've viewed both videos and here's what I've taken from them:

Don't worry about cholesterol, it is not fully understood even by chemical pathologists.
People on LCHF diet see a natural rise in HDL and fall in sdLDL (modified LDL), which translates to a rise in TC levels with a caveat that some people do not see any changes in TC but it is not known why.
You are more likely to have a cardiac incident if your sdLDL and Trigs are at a high level.
People with Diabetes have higher levels of the baddies

The Prof. has been testing his cholesterol for thirty years, tried a statin, hated it and stopped it. He has a LCHF diet.

@Rachox
Maybe you should send these to your Doctor...hehe
I hope you don't think I'm lecturing you...well I probably am but in your own best interests..

So, to answer my own question, it is not ketosis that changes levels of cholesterol. The
LCHF diet itself causes (in most people) a rise in TC and (again in most people) weight loss/ketosis.

Levels of TC are as personal as the shade of lipstick you choose to wear, the mathematics in the use of measuring all the components of cholesterol arn't great. Watch Prof Sikari's space for more...

I haven't had time to watch the talks but did he mention it's likely that your cholesterol isn't constant anyway but moves up and down during the day like blood sugar?

It can do, but more importantly, it's the Trigs that are hard to pin down. The mechanism for measuring isn't great because of this. He says that's why the HbA1c is a decent test for sugar because the cells hang around for three months unlike sdLDL and triglycerides.
