Re: Keytones

Hi. Yes, read the link. Ketones normally imply high blood sugar when your body is burning fat rather than carbs to get energy i.e. it is in ketosis. If this is left untreated it may lead to ketoacidosis where very high blood sugar with ketones can become quite dangerous. First, have plenty of water and measure your blood sugar. If it is high you need to reduce it perhaps in conjunction with your GP. I don't know what meds you are on, but it's possible you may need some insulin as it's essential to reduce it if high. If your sugar isn't high then see the GP anyway.

Define "quite high".

Well, it's the other way around. Normally, you would test for ketones when BG is high to distinguish between dangerous DKA (possibly T1 misdiagnosed as T2) and less immediately dangerous hyperglycemia (e.g. missing mealtime insulin injection).

Other causes of ketones include fasting/low-carbing, alcoholism and a range of other things. Again, could you a bit more precise than "quite high"? What's your blood glucose like?
