kidney damage

hi I have type 2 diabetes on insulin I had my 6 monthly blood test which was repeated 4 weeks later I was told I had kidney damage due to diabetes I then went on to have a water sample test which was ok do I have kidney damage or not please help

This is something you will need to seek medical opinion on, your doctor or whoever is doing the testing and reading the results. We can't diagnose for you.

thanks for your reply I just needed a quick answer really instead of another 4 week wait to see a doctor thanks anyway

We don't have exact numbers, and even then, we can't speculate, it's against forum rules. I did have some kidney issues myself due to prolonged high bloodsugars, which seem to have resolved themselves on the low carb/high fat diet though. (That also got me off diabetes meds and into the normal range.).

Also, from here on in, always ask for the exact results of your tests. You could phone for the exact results, or maybe check online with your practice, rather than wait 4 weeks? You don't know where you're going if you don't know where you've been. And while we can't diagnose, we can make educated guesses, or you can check what normal levels are online, and compare them with yours. Just know that what is normal for a regular person without T2, well... They have different parameters for T2's, usually. Like damage to something or other is expected, and thus considered normal. While it doesn't have to be like that; we're not hopeless, doomed cases. I don't know whether you're on insulin because you don't produce your own anymore or whether you still make it, but no-one ever mentioned low carbing to you, but if you still make your own and your pancreas isn't knackered, low carb is still an option. Just be careful because if you combine it with insulin you can/will hypo.

@carol6168 as blood tests can probably test for 1001 things we don’t know what tests were done on your blood and what it showed, likewise, urine can show different things depending on what’s being looked for. It is possible for diabetes to damage the kidneys, I’ve been put on a blood pressure medication to help my kidneys, (because I have a neurological disorder that caused me damage), but it also helps stop the diabetes causing further damage. If I was in your shoes, and been told to wait 4 weeks for a retest, I’d be happy that if there is some question about damage it’s not definitive or really severe else they would be doing something ASAP.
