I have type 1 diabetes and was only diagnosed just over a year ago at the age of 32. I have recently found out I have a kidney infection and I am taking antibiotics.
My blood sugar control is usually pretty good but it has been all over the place the last few days. I know infections can cause blood sugar levels to rise but should I keep injecting corrective insulin as well as my usual injections, my readings have been 13 mmol or over today and I can't seem to lower it?! Anybody got any advice for me please as my doctor hasn't been very helpful and this is all still pretty new to me! :meh:

I think you should have enough insulin to keep your blood sugar at the right level. If it goes above around 11 mmol then your body will start dumping sugar in your urine and guess what - it will encourage the infection to get worse.

Welcome ! :)I hope you feel better soon !
The following link is a flow chart regarding the Sick Day Rules, that you may find useful :

Have you been referred to a course such as DAFNE yet ?

Thanks so much for sick day rules info wish doctors would give patients this kind of info! I went on a SOCCER programme couple of months after diagnosis which is similar to DAFNE course. Turns out I was allergic to antibiotics so have been given new antibiotics to try now. I asked for my hba1c test and urine results on a print out today at doctors as they usually give me them to me after my tests each 3 months but docs wouldn't give them to me today and said they no longer give detailed print outs?! Do you know if I'm entitled to this info as a nhs patient?! Cheers :)
