Kohlrabi

Last week the organic farm I use had kohlrabi for sale. I have never had it before, but after checking things out, decided to buy some and try it. It arrived yesterday, and so I am going to have some with dinner tonight. It is 28 calories and 6g of carbs per 100g, but I will only have half of that, as I like to have a variety of veg.

I am going to steam mine, as that seems to be the first method of cooking, but I am really not sure. Has anyone else had kohlrabi and if so how did you cook yours?

Thanks.

soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
It's one of my favourite veggies. I grow th purple kind. I agree on steaming it, but you can peal and then slice thin and cook in a pan with minimal water and loads of butter.
To peal , cut the root off and get hold of the skin at the bottom and pull off.
the top part of the ball is sweetest and deliciousand crunchy, eaten raw as a snack or in salads. the bigger they get, the more likely they are to get "woody" if woody, steaming is best. It tastes just like cabbage stalk, which is basiccally what it is.
Hana
Pss I like them between golfball and tennis ball size. Nearer to golf ball

Mine is about tennis ball size Hana. Thanks for the tips, I think I will just go ahead and steam it. I am really looking forward to trying it. This diabetes thing really makes you open your eyes to all the goodies out there. :D
