Hey Peeps

Just after a bit of advise, I have worked my way up to 60 units each night of Lantus - injection pen - my doctors etc don't seem to think this is is a high dosage, my bloody are doing really well since I upped it from 53 units ... i don't seem to go out of range.

My question is ... do you think this is too many units for me ? 6foot3 22 stone ?

Just worried I'm taking too much

TIA

Stu

I have to add - the local NHS diabetes clinic has let me down big style, offered me no help and just basically lied about what I said in the meeting I had, so I'm back with my doctors, who are really good ..... understanding and caring, sometimes that's all you need to get you back on track...

Im sooo confused about things right now ... but I have been better in my blood than I have ever been (on freestyle libra for my blood checking, god send)

If you are managing to keep in range and have good control; you are using the correct amount for you.
No-one is the same, if you need 60 of Lantus each night, you need 60.

The amount is highly dependent on the person, I've heard of people needing as few as 3 or 4 at night, and others needing over 100.

If this dose is working for you it's the right dose for you!

There are no set rules on insulin dosing based on weight, you find the right dose by trial and error.
Which is why they start newly diagnosed on low doses and work their way up, there is no way of predicting if someone needs 4 units or 200.

And for what it's worth, I'm currently taking between 98 and 120 units of long acting a day, plus mealtime insulin of course. Works very well for me so I'm happy with that.
