Hi @ailsa12 :)

Have you done a basal test to check your Lantus is at the correct amount?

Have you tried taking your Lantus at other times eg morning or evening?

my consultant is happy with how much im taking and i take it at tthis time becasue i have had problems taking it in the evening and due to another medical condition mornings arn't good. I decided to only take 4 of the 10 at 2 today and will take the rest with dinner to see if that helps?

Some people do find splitting their Lantus dose helps :) Obviously it may take experimentation and lots of testing to see what split works for you.

Let me tag @noblehead for you as he has experience of Lantus and may be able to add more information :)

Hi @ailsa12 ,

This may sound like a daft question. Is Lantus the only insulin you are prescribed??

no im on novo rapid as well but ive got that down to a tee

Sorry bout the Q. Just trying to get my head round your personal regime..

Does look like your Lantus is tailing off its "working profile" around the 20/21hour mark? (Round about the time you are most active?)

Do you do breakfast before the walk?

I'm not sure it never has done it before. I'm having breakfast and taking insulin but i check when i get back in from the walk, today it had gone from 7.5 to 6 when i got back but then up to 9 in the two hours beetween that a lunch at 2

Hi @ailsa12 . I'm on the same regime as yourself. Lantus and novorapid. Prior to undertaking a DAFNE course I was taking a single lantus injection daily ( bedtime ). DAFNE course required me to split lantus roughly 12 hrs apart. I couldn't see how it would work but it did. Seems to make everything more stable and flat if that makes sense.
It may benefit you talking to your DSN and giving it a go. You should find that you'll need less lantus over a 24 hr period.

Ive chatted about the possiblity of doign it before so im going to give it a try and see what happens my plan is 4 units at 2 and then 6 at 9 and see what happens

Probably a combination of bolus from brecky wearing off & the phase out of Lantus... (If I read this correct?)
I would agree with @therower regarding 12 hours apart on the split dose..

However! I'm guessing you were having no issues timing your Lantus at the previous time of 13.00 hours? (Though to my personal case an hour or 90 minute window don't make much odds.)
Working on the "if it ain't broke." :D

Hi @ailsa12 , before I started pumping 18 months ago I was on Lantus and Novorapid.

I was struggling with the Lantus until I split the dose. I used to take 22u at night all in one go. When I split it in half, taking half at 7am and half at 7pm, not only did my control steady up, but I found I could reduce my dose to 8u each time - so I went from 22u daily to 16u!

I was staggered.

:)
