Lantus vs Tresiba?

My diabetes Doctor has switched my long acting insulin from Lantus to Tresiba. I still have some of my Lantus left so I have not yet made the change. I am just wondering what the real difference would be and if anyone who has also made the switch how their experience was with the change.
 
I changed some time last year, for me it was because for 90% of the time I was dropping into the red at about 3am (ie about 4hours after taking the Lantus, and Lantus is known for being stronger about then), the Tresiba whilst it doesn't completely stop the dip it has meant I'm now not always low at 3am. The libre is what actually alerted me to it because I don't normally tend to wake up during said lows overnight)

Was there a reason you've been changed?
 
Thanks for your response! I was on 30 units which I gave all at once before bed and I'd always wake up with high sugars even if I went to bed with my sugars around 5-7. The Doctor asked why I didn't increase my Lantus and it was because I would get lows during the night if I gave myself more than 30 units. I had tried splitting my insulin half in the morning half before bed but that didnt help. So thats why the switch was suggested.

Hi,

I'll let you know when I finally get my first supply. (It's been given the "go ahead.")

I'm on lantus, & find the dipping zones about 2to3am & (or.) 5to6am if a low recurs..?

It can also get a little lary about 4to6pm witch no fast acting insulin on board.

If you don't mind @auttycat .? I'll be interested on the responses on this topic too.
 
When i was on lantus i found i was having lots of early morning lows then late afternoon lots of highs as if the lantus was waining off ,now im on tresiba i have much more stable bgs and seems to last the full 24 hrs .i find it lasts upto 28 hours as i found out when i forgot to inject hope you find it works as well for you auttycat and you jaylee x

Are you aware that Lantus can also be taken in the morning?
 
I found the change to Tresiba to be frustrating at first but having used Lantus from the early 90s found it wasn't working the same (and when it did work the insulin seemed to lose strength 3/4 the way down the pen), I moved injection times looking for the 'sweet spot' but over a year ended back with it as a before bed injection.

Dose wise I took 22u Lantus and use 14u Tresiba now, which is strange but it is a much much better insulin:)
 
I’ve used treasons for about 4 years levemir lasted about 18 hours for me had loads 5 hours after taking then later in the day I would be high... treasons lasts in your system for about 3 days the action of it is much smoother so no more lows over night for me... and because it builds up in your system and is active for about 3 days if I went out one night and didn’t go home hence missing a dose it Had no/minimal effect on my control so long as I took it the following night I was fine

Find tresiba to be far better too. Less hypos in the morning also (aware it can be taken at anytime but my routine is to take it at night). Take a fairly hefty does though but all of our bodies are different!!
