Type 1.5 Lantus

I have just had my dose split into 2 doses 12 hours apart 7am 7pm by my diabetes nurse so I would think you could take it am instead - is there a particular reason you want to do this?

@Kieron10 . Before I started splitting my lantus injections I spent a while injecting in the morning. Biggest issue for me was high BS readings on rising, which I put down to the lantus not lasting 24hrs in my system.

Yeah my bloods always rise as soon as novorapid wears off. After reading things on here I feel maybe splitting it would help me massively.

They're hoping this will stabilise mine better. I'm on smallish doses 6 lantus now split 3 & 3 so will be interested to see how things go.

Hope it does help for you. I'm on 38 units of lantus

Let us know if it works better as a split dose. A lot of this seems to be try it and see which still feels odd!

Hi @Kieron10
I always took lantus ( when I was on it for 18 years ) at tea time ( around 6pm) ( 32 units for me )
I always struggled with high BG's in the morning -- but this is all in the past ( am pumping now )

looking forward , splitting your dose does look attractive -- but I would speak with your DSN first.

Hi @Books1
you have pretty much nailed it with that comment-- our healthcare teams are indeed there to assist and advise --- but it is us that live with it 24/7 -- so experimenting with timings etc is something we need to feel confident doing -- the D lasts a long time so a few weeks or months experimenting with timings helps us over the long term.

Thanks everybody. Yeah think I'll take 14 tonight and 14 tomorrow morning.

Yeah it seems as though my lantus doesn't last anywhere near long enough through the day. So hopefully if I take half tonight and half in the morning I may get a better result. Because as soon as my novorapid wears off I'm getting highs again

@Kieron10 . Just be aware that you will need to do some basal testing to get the correct dosage am and pm for you as an individual. It doesn't always work out half and half and you may also find you need a smaller amount over a 24 hr period than when you inject only once a day.
Good luck and take care if you do decide to change your regime and as like anything if your not sure or comfortable then speak to your DSN.
