Need to try another basal insulin as levemir just doeset work for me and so want to try lantus but hesitate to ask gp for script as i think one cartridge alone cant be done
Ant ideas:)
 
The cartridges and pens (Solostar) come in packs of 5 so you wouldn't be able to obtain a single cartridge on its own, besides to give the insulin a chance you would need to take it for a good few weeks to see if it works for you, depending on how much you inject a single cartridge might not be enough anyway.
 
I've only just started (yesterday) using Lantus Solstar as my basal and am having problems, not unexpected, because it's going to take a while to sort out correct dosage. If your GP agrees to a change, I hope it works for you.

Beachbag I tested all the insulin pens a few years ago for diabetic research. All the pens lined up and had to do jab into a big sponge pad,most pens were ok but the solastar was awful and leaked insulin even after the usual count of ten when removed from the pad it dribbled very badly and so how can you accurately measure the amount given ,it could vary by several units and so make it difficult at the stage you are in finding your suitable dose.If GP allows me Lantus will get cartridges even if i need to buy a pen for it

Funny you should say about the Lantus pen leaking....mine did that this morning, even tho' I counted to 20. Will see what happens tomorrow. Thank you :)

Thanks Alan, you're a great support. When it actually came down to starting basal/bolus, something I've been pushing for, I was quite nervous, lol. The weekend was rubbish, but today is a little better. DN told me to only bonus for carbs, BUT after doing some reading on here I bolused for protein at breakfast and two hours later got a 6.1. That'll do me for now ;)
Who has all the answers?? Not HCPs lol...it comes from the foot soldiers who live with this monster every day!

Glad you are getting on so well and sorry if my remark about solostar seems like scare mongering but I think its as well be aware.Best of luck we are all wishing you well
