After my initial HBA result of 140 mmol plus in September my latest results show I've got my level down to 48mmol. I've had a good few hypos while getting control of my sugars but seam to have stopped them now eating little and often. There's 2 things I still cant sort out though. 1 if I eat to many carbs my sugars will go up to say 14mmol and then plumit into hypo zone within an hour. Dr can't give me an explanation to this. Next one is leg pain I get what I can only describe as medi evil pain in my legs and cramps on my calfs that feel like my shin is goin to snap and blood sugar levels have no influence on this I test sugars when thr pain is bad and they can be 4.5mmol. Could this be damage caused during my undiagnosed time.

Hi @Jeff11

It would be useful if you can tell us about any medication you are on. So that members can give relevant advice.
Perhap you could put it in your profile.

How low are you going?
And are the lows measured by a Libre only or confirmed with a fingerprick?

If they're real hypo's, you could have a touch of RH (reactive hypoglycemia).
What about not eating carbs in amounts that make you rise that high and drop again?

I have reduced the mad spikes by eating smaller meals but eating 6 times a day doing this has levelled my sugars out and stopped hypos unless I forger to eat or don't get a chance. Lowest I've been was 2.5mmol measured on blood I think that shown as 2.2 on libre. I think they are real hypos as feel like I'm drunk have no coordination and my hear feels like a bass drum beating. I think I've sorted my levels out its just I cant get an answer from the doctors about why I have the mad spikes and why my leg pain is still really bad even with normal ish sugar levels.

@Jeff11 Did you ever get a confirmed diagnosis?
I think its very rare for a non-medicated T2 to hypo (i don't think metformin counts as a hypo inducer but I could be wong, am only am amateur)

First of all massive congrats on the huge improvement in BG, that's impressive.

What you are describing sounds like Reactive Hypoglycemia, read up on it & see if it sounds familiar.
Have you lost a significant amount post diagnosis ?
Some T2s find that losing large amounts of weight can restore their 2nd phase insulin response, then the over production of insulin to quell the large spike is was causes the body to go hypo.

Could be damage, sometimes rapid changes in A1c is known to kick off microvascular complications, the body likes stasis.
This may be temporary once you keep your A1c in line.

I was confirmed type 2 diabtes eventually. I have read that Meta can in some cases cause hypos.

When I went to see the diabetic team and I told them about my hypos and they seen them on the libre app I asked about Reactive Hypoglycaemia but they said it won't be that and just dismissed them them discharged me and said I'm doing great. I lost near 4 stone prior to being diagnosed that's why I went for a blood test. I have but half a stone back on though as I eat 6 times a day to keep the hyposbat bay. I csnt do as much exercise either as that lowers the sugars a fair bit. I hope this leg pain thing is tempory the doctor was going to give me some pregablin but I don't want to start on anything like that

T2 and PAF & now Haemochromatosis!
Pain in the legs might be low magnesium. I was diagnosed in July 2021, HBa1C was 134! I was not able to think properly. Hubs thought I’d had a stroke. I was losing weight in hospital, food unsuitable. I went low carb and got HBa1C down to 43 in few months. I paid to see a consultant Endocrinologist who said I was doing fabulously but ‘you’ve got to live’ she said ‍♀️ So been more relaxed with eating but numbers up and down. Never into double figures but high, especially recently but then I know its the season. I check my blood twice a day, morning and evening, I got told I was over testing by GP!! Try looking at low carb eating but it might be you need magnesium for cramps. Check out Marilyn Glenville nutritioonist

I have a magnesium blood test In a few weeks. I was told I test to much and I didn't need a libre. But without using the libre I wouldn't have reduced my levels as quick. The libre taught me a lot about what foods do to me

I don't know much about this game but you know there were quite a fair few times when I ate lots of carbs a day before or in the morning and didn't eat for some time where I felt like what I think people describe a hypo to be.

I was almost out of nowhere, quite quickly clammy, with cold sweats, my energy sapped, with a sort of impending horrible feeling, tingly, shaky, disorientated and a bit almost aggressive/short tempered and in a massive panic to eat something sweet very quickly ( which incidentally as soon as I grabbed something sweet it sorted me right out within a few minutes. )

Mentioned this to the Mrs as she's a Nurse and said it would be unlikely a real hypo and probably my blood sugar being too high for too long and then when it went down to 'normal' and my body having deranged signals thought it was having a hypo with all the symptoms.

I'm not 100% convinced but it hasn't happened for a long time, last time was a one off last year, after a sugar binge so she's probably right.

in fact she's more right than me about most things so I probably shouldn't be so dismissive. :D
