Just got back from seeing the DN.
She was really happy with my progress and heaped praise on my progress since first being diagnosed.

My latest HbA1c was 43.5mm (6.1%)
BP: 114/78
Chol: 4.7mm
Weight : 90kg (14.2 stones)

She hinted that if my figures were similar or lower next time, I would not need to take my metformin.
That's a nice goal to work towards.

Just wanted to share the good news with you all, because this forum has helped me so much.
I am glad to be part of this wonderful community.

Marion.

Marion im interested to know exactly how low carb you eat - my levels are similar except my cholesterol is a lot higher although ratios and triglycerides are good.

Hi Judyann,

I try to limit my carbs to around 100g or less per day.
I tend to add pulses to my food for slow release carbs and fiber, I also like my greens, I absolutely love Fennel (Raw or cooked) but it can be hard to find in some supermarkets. We grow it ourselves in the summer.

Eggs are another favorite, which can be cooked in many different ways.
I eat Optivita cereal, but I often have problems getting this as our local supermarkets are hit and miss at stocking it. They seem to prefer to stock the special K options, which don't suit my BG.

I like to cook my food from fresh or frozen ingredients as they are far less likely to have any additives hidden in them, although I have found a butcher that makes his own faggotts which are amazing (yum yum).

Gone are the days where we eat out more than at home, fast meals & convenience foods.
I do lots of home cooking now, and can control the amount of carbs per meal.

Congratulations Marion

Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the reply marion, much appreciated - youve given me new ideas and i hope you keep up the good work. My next hba1c is late december so we will see. I can never get a good bp reading at the docs - white coat syndrome!! Really wish i could tho.
