Just received a letter after my last check, it was an extra one as I'd dropped all my meds except metformin after going less than 20g carb a day

HBa1c 46 up from 45 - I know this is negligible but I'm a little disappointed as I was hoping for at least a little bit lower
Cholesterol up from 7.1 to 7.3 but it says in the letter my HDL and my ratios are good - happy with that
My blood pressure was down a little bit 128/74 which I'm happy with as I'd stopped the ramipril that I was on for kidney protection
Weight down by 19lb since January so that's great!

After writing it all down it's really not bad - just a bit disappointed in my HBa1c as I've been vigilant in my eating and apart from fasting tests which are always higher than I'd like in the 7s I haven't seen anything above 6.5 before or after meals. I know testing is just a snapshot but in the past my testing has been more indicative than that.

Considering the changes in medication that you have made these results are Sterling! Maintenance is great, too.

You're doing a great job @lovinglife it's work in progress as I say, the change in HbA1c is still in the right area regardless of the 1 point difference, be proud of yourself :)

Rome wasn’t built in a day. I say hats off to you. Reducing medications with no detriment to your glucose control is a triumph!

So no change in HbA1c really, but it was good anyway. :) I have read that fasting BG can be a little higher when doing keto, so that could be why the overall 'average' is higher than you wanted, but it's still a great HbA1c. :)

The other 3 markers you mention though are brilliant!
The chances are the increase in cholesterol is an increase in the good protective cholesterol as your ratios are good.
Your weight loss is terrific (jealous... moi? ;) lol)
Your BP is also great especially without BP meds.

Very well done you. :)
Now could you give me a hand up back onto the keto wagon please? I am low carbing still but I need to go lower again and can't quite get there. :banghead:

Thanks guys - I am very happy on the whole - just wanted more! Lol - it's the perfectionist in me
@zand you can do it girl! You have always been an inspiration to me and I have every faith in you. I went cold turkey and thought I would really struggle but I've prescribed to the Diet Doctor site and I do a menu and shopping list every week and I think that has what has kept me on the straight and narrow - no counting as it's all done for me if I stick to my menu

@lovinglife Hey it's a win anyways in my book because you've had some good things happen and a 1 increase ain't something to fret over in my opinion. You're doing your best and just make sure to let yourself enjoy it with your way of eating too, keep it trundling along as much as you can without feeling deprived.

@zand Offering you a hand right now back onto this here wagon! You can do this!

@lovinglife you should be proud of those results.

Dropping medication and still remaining in control is no mean feat, and your other markers are really doing well.

Nothing happens overnight, so if you keep doing what you are and as your system gets used to less meds things will only get better still.

<snip>

This quote caught my eye.
I'm struggling with FBG at the moment on low carb/keto so I would be grateful for any links people have.

Oh @lovinglife that is fabulous.

I know that dropping the Glic was a big step, and for you to have done it and kept the same HbA1c (or have a negligible difference) is magnificent. Especially with that weight loss. AND excellent ratios... brilliant!

WELL DONE!!!

Thank you everyone you've made me look at it differently and I have realised actually I've done pretty well. I took gliclizide for 10 years in varying amounts so yes I should be and I am chuffed I'm almost drug free - sometimes you can't see the wood for the trees :)

Now that really is inspiring. :)

@lovinglife I 100% agree with everyone else. You have shown that the Glic wasn't helping any more because you have remaind stable without it. I wonder if it ever helped when on a low carb diet? Well done, you should be happy and celebrating. The DP in the mornings is down to insulin resistance, so attack that and you will see a drop. :)

What kind of levels are you seeing and how long LC/Keto ?

Been keto for more than a year but fell off the wagon last Xmas.

Overnight fasting BG in the low 7s at the moment.
Fasting levels several hours after Bullet Resistant Coffee in the mid to high 6s.

Has anyone suggested C-peptide test just to check on endogenous insulin production?

Has anyone suggested C-peptide test just to check on endogenous insulin production?

I was wondering.

My privately funded IR test showed insulin production at the lower end of normal plus some insulin resistance.
However I would expect a lower level of insulin production when in ketosis.

I think you're doing fine - and a tiny one point HbA1c wobble is nothing to stress over - you're not a laboratory robot, so a little flexibility in OK, IMO!
