Hi 2 weeks ago today after watching doctor in the house on BBC1 and almost being the same weight height age and many other similarlys including high hba1c and daily bs of around 13 to 20. I decided it's time to do something about my diabetes. I have been type 2 since 1995 and I am now 45.
In the past 2 weeks I have only eaten meat cheese salad and vegetables and remarkably my bs in the day have gone down to between 4.2 and 7.5
Also I have lost 8lb in weight and must admit I do feel a lot better.
I have been doing a mile and a half steady walk on the treadmill that isn't to demanding but really happy with the results. Hope this helps someone out there that has lost the will like I had.

Oh and my only treat Simmons pork scratchings from Asda

Thank you. I do hope so. I hope to shock the doctor to death the same way that she has just left me with no correct support or really any information to help me. It wasn't till I saw the program that I had a clue what I should do to help myself. And to be honest like I did 20 years ago think oh it won't affect me.
I definitely think that when you're diagnosed you should be given a DVD with the information on. and also the shock of what will happen if you don't look after yourself. I personally think that this would help people understand and would cut the amount of people that end up blind or with amputations. Something with such a small cost could save so much nhs money long term.

Craig, massive congrats! I think I answered one of your posts when you joined, it's great to hear what a difference you have made to your levels.
Trouble with NHS is that it tends to trot out the same old outdated information, and people just keep getting sicker..we can only hope that one day they will get the message.

My dietician this week wants me to eat porridge again. She nearly had me convinced to.
I've lost another 6lb on pork scratchings, nuts and half a plate of veg with less protein. Soft cheese, hard cheese and eggs. :-P
No fruit
No porridge
No bread only protein rolls
No pasta but about to try courgetti.
No salt only in pork scratchings
No cream for now. Saving for Christmas.
No hypers!

Well all we can do is try it. We must remember that every one of us is different and what spikes one may not another. X

Just stick with the forums lots to learn from the experienced members, and buy a SD Codefree meter their test strips are far cheaper than any other.I hardly use mine now as I know what food spikes me

Hi everyone just my 3rd week update.
Well it's been 3weeks now of LCHF diet. On the big weigh in this morning as I do every Monday morning. I have lost a huge 10lb in 3weeks so I am chuffed to bits with that.
Now for BG. Well my fasting over night has started to lower its an average 7to 8 now and my readings 2 hours after eating are a brilliant reading of between 4 and 7.8 so I am thrilled it is worth sticking to and just being patient.
I'm still taking metformin 500 and starlix 120 three times a day so I'm going to give it another week and maybe stop the starlix at midday as a couple of my afternoon readings have been below 4. I don't want to be going down the hypo route. Stay strong guys it's your life you control it.

What amazing results! Really chuffed to read this Craig, and really encouraging for other newbies. Thanks for the updates:)

4 weeks LCHF for me. 6.2 @ 2am ( on nights) . 7.4 @ 11am when I got up. back to 6.2 @ 130 after 3 egg omlette with shallot garlic and cheese - well chuffed. Ive lost 2 kilos but was not overweight anyway but almost skinny now ! waist back to 34inches, been 36 for years and haven't been 32 since i was 18 !! might get back there again !!!

refused all meds with a HBAC1 of 66. My tracker now saying I'm at 47.5 !!! Got my next check at docs on 11th Jan. I will be below 53 ( 7%) and will hopefully not have to take any meds to control this !

The only way I can beat dawn thingy is to eat no carb dinner - late, hence late insulin. Insulin compats it. It seems.

hba1c down from 65 to 47 today at diabetic appointment.....due to HFLC diet my husband has been on for 2 months now ....getting low BS readings he is enjoying the lifestyle now

Awesome, Well Done!

I think doing LCHF has saved me from going on Insulin, it's taken 6 months to get my fasting level down from 22.5 to in the 7's. I'm on max dosage of Metformin, 2000mg and I think had i not kept my carb intake to around 70gr a day I'd be on other medication and/or insulin.

My daily levels are around about the same as fasting +/- 2. Still feel relatively unwell but not as unwell as 6 months ago LOL :)

I need to up my exercise which will happen once I'm through recovering from the shoulder surgery I'm having on Monday. I think pain killers for my shoulder and current 'challenging' family and work circumstances have kept my levels up slightly higher than they should be.
