I'm new to lchf but I'm loving it. I feel it's time to introduce exercise again ( I relaxed on it so I could safely introduce the new eating regime) so far I've only reduced my bolus needs & haven't touched my basal rates. Usually about 1 hour before exercise I reduce my basal to 50% for about 2 hours, after exercise I'm usually hypo or flirting around it. I'm wondering if this would still be the case...Any tips or advice?

I'm sorry I don't use insulin, so I can't help you.

I will bump your post though so that others are more likely to see it. I hope a more knowledgeable person comes along soon. :)

Hi Pepsi Max - I've only been on lchf since November but do go to body attack classes 3x a week, swim & the occasional jog. What I have noticed is that my sugars don't dip as much & remain around the same as at the beginning & end of a class. Swimming seems around the same - jogging lowers it a little. I split my Lantus (morn & eve) & reduce it by 2 units on the evenings I do classes. I must admit though - I'd like to do a 10k & do wonder if I'd need to up the carbs but really don't want to. Hope that is of some help - sorry if I tad vague! Gd luck.

With competitive sport (badminton) and weight lifting I find I need extra insulin during usually about 1 unit just after starting the activity otherwise they can rise as high as 9. Post activity I take a reduced bolus for any meals eaten within 12 hrs reducing by 50%. Have been on LCHF since Jan and prior to this I did exactly the same as you @Pepsi Max

Basal could be reduced by 5-10% but I don't bother, my fasting glucose may be as low as 3.9 but this is rare (normally 4-5) so not a huge difference.

I am keen to try running, cycling and swimming on LCHF so some more personal experiences on basal and bolus on these would be great as I am reluctant to run my sugars high as they've been brilliant for over a month now!

Hoping to get average down to 6 and eventually 5.5.

Can't praise LCHF enough!
