Just found this while looking for useful Alexa skills.

"The Express UK had a story recently on a recommendation made by the Arthritis Foundation that people stop using vegetable oils. Industrially produced vegetable oils, such as corn, afflower, sunflow, soy, and canola oils, contain large amounts of omega-6 oils. While omega-6 oils are necessary for our bodies, the American diet tends to involve way more omega-6 fats than we need, to the point that they can interfere with the proper functionality of our bodies and, in some cases, may promote cancer.
Rather, the Arthritis Foundation recommends people swap their liquid oils to healthier olive oil. As proponents of low-carb, high-fat eating, we also recommend coconut oil, avocado oil, butter, or bacon grease"

I had some vegetable oil which was redundant, so I put it in the below appropriate delivery vessel (which is probably safer to humans) and use it to lubricate my home gym equipment......

Not joking, it works really well for metal on metal

Among many other things, vegetable oils are implicated in the modern epidemic of age related macular degeneration.

I'm always intrigued when a statement made on this and other forums comes as a complete surprise. I have no experiences to be in a position to make any comment. Except my father has Macular Degeneration and I know that his poorly controlled type II is part of that story. So, I do what any inquisitive person would do, I talk to Dr Google (well type . . . . at the moment).

I found this straight away https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0160240. The conclusion of this piece of research was "This study suggests a protective effect of olive oil consumption for late AMD in this elderly community-dwelling population. Characterization of the mediating nutrients deserves further research."

I then found http://davidgillespie.org/stop-it-or-youll-go-blind/ which had nothing to do with . . . . . . . . Interesting opinion, well explained, no empirical evidence. The conclusion "There is now significant evidence of the role of seed oils in the development of the disease. But once again, the folks charged with looking out for our health are squarely on the side of their corporate sponsors". A love intrigue.

So I don't have to spend the rest of the day trying to get to the bottom of this, is it all about Omega-3 vs Omega-6?

You might find this interesting, @DavidGrahamJones :

My understanding is that industrial seed oils (canola, cottonseed, sunflower, safflower, etc) that are high in Omega 6 and are already oxidised even before being heated are especially damaging to blood vessels - especially smaller blood vessels.
