Lettuce/ Salad

There's so few carbs in your lettuce portion I'd be surprised if it was causing much of a bg rise.

On MDI I would always have to split-dose for meals that were low-carb and higher in fat & protein.

10-20 is only approx 0.5-1 mmol. Bearing in mind that the meter has a margin of error, I wouldnt worry too much.

To answer your lettuce issue, I wonder if a basal test would help? I notice you saying elsewhere that one high sugar meant three days of messed up,readings for you. That doesn't sound right. Perhaps your basal needs have increased? You could test to,rule it out.

It's always worth checking the basal occasionally. I know you're ok overnight but I wondered if that held true for the daytime too? Just throwing it out there as an idea

Basal is supposed to work 24 hours. What basal insulin do you use? I think lantus covers approximately 18 hours and levemir approximately 12. So it could be that your basal is running out in the day? If that's the case you wouldn't necessarily have to up the dose, but rather, think about splitting it.

Your basal is supposed to keep you flat (without food/bolus/unusual exercise) all through the day - because your liver will be giving out glucose all through the day. So it might be worth thinking about some day time basal testing, just to see whether your basal is doing its job in the day.

Is there any pattern to the timing of the lettuce v non lettuce meals? If you have non lettuce for lunch and it all works fine, but lettuce for evening meal and you get a rise that might suggest it could be a basal running out thing rather than a lettuce thing.?

If you have normal stomach emptying then fats/proteins or even extr carbs should not raise your levels for 2-3 days....
Have you actually weighed everything with your salad.. With egg and everything weighed I would have to nolus for between 14-19 carbs depending on qty of eggs. That wasn't with anything like coleslaw or potato salad etc...
