Levels of ketonuria in VLCD

Hi all.

As you may be aware, I eat a VLC diet, usually 30g or less per day and have done for years.
I always have ketones in my wee of varying levels.
I've recently read that the levels of ketones are irrevelant; as long as they are there, fat burning is taking place.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this they would care to share?

I can't edit my title. It should, of course, read ketonuria.

Ummm this feels like it should be on some strange fetish forum...

I had a listen to this the other day:

I'm sure Mark Sisson says during the interview that the ketones in your urine are pretty irrelevant*. I think he is suggesting that if you are truly keto-adapted then you shouldn't get any, because your finely tuned fat burning machine should gobble them all up for fuel.

I've been on <<30g for a couple of weeks, but I haven't managed to change the colour of my strips at all :(

When I was first diagnosed I got in trouble with my Doctor and the Diabetic clinic at the hospital for getting up to 15mg/dl "SMALL".

(*for a T2 diabetic deliberately putting themselves in ketosis, you should be very careful of ketones if you are on insulin).

Wiflib - have edited the title for you :) No more jokes.....

I've posted this link a few times wiflib it may answer some if not all your questions on ketogenic diets and weight loss.

Thanks Sid.
That article seems to primarily target weight lifters, although the basic info on ketosis seems sound. Nothing I don't already know in the article.

What I'm trying to find out is if the levels of ketones in urine has any significance in fat burning. Is the basic equation, more ketones=more fat burned?

You can burn fat without any sign of urinary ketones. I lost over half a stone in 2 weeks because of a 'bug' recently, no appetite, higher glucose levels so taking more insulin than usual to keep glucose down. I had small amounts of ketones in my blood from time to time but, but none showed up in my urine.

Lyle Mc Donald (another 'bodybuilder, considered to be knowledgeable about ketogenic diets) answers the question here.
