Hello all

After some general advice

Over the last 6 days my levels have risen in the afternoon and I have been in the early 20s for a few hours. My Libre reader puts my 7 day level average now at 12.5 up from my 90 day at 9.5.

I am doing nothing different food or activity wise and don’t get what is causing the change.

I also had really bad calf cramp in the night which is still sore. I was probably a little lower on water intake yesterday which could have added to the cramp issue but I am a little concerned about my levels

Off for some exercise this afternoon to see what difference that makes but anyone have any ideas or similar experience please?

Out for a few hours so won’t reply until later

Thanks

Take care with exercise when your BG is is high. Exercise may raise your BG further and you may have ketones which could make you feel worse.

There are many things which could be causing your high BG such as illness (such as your cramp), stress, food, etc.

I would recommend carefully taking some insulin to bring your BG down.
Often we become insulin resistant when our BG is high so expect to need more correction than expected but take it slowly and monitor to avoid a sudden drop.

I would also supplement the Libre with finger pricks. Libre is often less accurate at high readings (the accuracy is measured as a percentage so the higher the reading the absolute error could be greater).

It could be possible that you are ending the honeymoon phase. For some the honeymoon period can last 18 / 24 months.
You could quite easily be falling into this timescale.
If you're not aware of the honeymoon period I'll give you a brief summary.
At first diagnosis your pancreas is still working, not a t full capacity hence the symptoms and onset of your diabetes.
Once we start insulin, it takes a lot of pressure off the pancreas and it is able to function better, if what somewhat sporadically.
Your pancreas is still going to stop working eventually but this can take time ( 18/24 months in some cases ). This would be the end of the honeymoon period.
At this point insulin requirements will change and without correction your bs levels will start to rise.
Your 90 day average is slightly high and maybe due to your pancreas becoming less effective over time.
Apologies if you're aware of all this. It's only the first option to consider, but it's probably the best place to start.

The moon's reached its zenith, wind changed direction, there's an "r" in the month or maybe it's because winter is coming?

Seriously, who knows? Forgive the cynicism but after 40 years of type 1 diabetes, I find it useless to try and figure out why insulin requirements change. They just do. Often.

The best thing to do, as long as you've excluded any obvious cause (the list is fairly long and I'm sure you're aware of most of them; a few you may not have considered are - infection, anxiety/emotional stress, changes in sleeping pattern) is to not worry about it and just adjust your insulin dosage to meet requirements.
