Levemir not doing it's job this week!

My sugars over the last 5 nights are ridiculously high! I'm taking my usual 20 units of levemir at night. My BG might be 5/6 mmol going to bed and I wake up during the night, test, and I'm 18/19! I correct with novarapid, go back to sleep and wake up still high in the morning!!

I've no explanation for this whatsoever!! This morning and yesterday morning i woke at 12 mmol! I've worked particularly hard to get my a1c down I don't want to risk it going back up!

Is there a chance my levemir is gone off? Should I start a new pen?
 
Always start new insuoin in cases like this @wannabemammy Thats the first thing I'd do.

Could there be an issue with where you're injecting?

Yes I'd start a new cartridge or pen if you're using the prefilled type. Is the box still in date? The pen will last up to 6 weeks out of the fridge, but I'd be surprised if your pen has been in use longer than that - because you're injecting 20u per night.

Have you been feeling stressed recently, exercising more or dipping low during the night without realising?
 
Morning @wannabemammy I understand completely your frustrations, I feel the same about mine at the moment, just got my best ever HbA1c and my BG levels are through the roof at the moment..:banghead:

Try a pen change as suggested, if this doesn't work then you'll need to adjust your dose, I struggle with the colder weather, so my basal requirement increases, am just doing a unit at a time at the moment to see how this affects me, running high also makes me grumpy so have to take this into consideration when evaluating my current mood ! :meh:
 
Hey wannabemammy. This happened me last year on levemir. I found out that levemir actually only works for 20-22 hrs. It doesnt have a full 24hr profile. Speak to your nurse about splitting your dose or changing your bolus. I switched to Toujeo and havent looked back x
