Morning, have been looking at posts on Levemir and hope I may get some advice. Been diagnosed 21 years, and currently using Levemir and Novorapid. I am well controlled and my HbA1C has always been around 7 though in Nov was 7.6 and last week 7.8 so trying to get it down. I have split my Levemir since 2007 and have 28 units when I go to bed and 14 when I get up. I have never really thought about the fact that they are not 12 hours apart, nor are 50:50. My levels throughout the day are generally good but seem to be creeping up to 11 in the evenings. I also find myself having much more Novorapid for my evening meal, even though I probably only have slightly more carbs. So, having discussed this with my DSN, it was suggested I move my Levemir to 12 hours apart. So I did 7pm and 7am and then found my morning levels sky high. So, would I be right to think if I am fine during the day, my night time Levemir is fine, but I should increase my morning dose as I assume by only having 14, it's running out come the evening. This seems logical, but was never explained to me. I do find my levels mid morning are verging on being a bit too low, so maybe I should move my morning one to say 10am? I think I am piling my Levemir into a shortened period and don't have enough of it in the evening, but not sure whether I should increase the day dose or move it, or maybe both? Thanks for reading.

Hello I use levemir and triple dose it .
Think like 3 x 8 = 24 to explain it all kind of thing !
Smaller unit dose(s) over the 24hours gives 'me'
better background performance cover works
best with me .

But this is just (ME)
Its what worked best for me and I stick with this now .

Hi @richard041967, when I changed over to Levemir a number of months back, I kept a note of what I was doing in this topic http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/ind...fully-providing-some-"lessons-learned".70039/

There is a graph in there that shows that at lower doses, the period over which levemir acts drops off, and it sounds as though you are experiencing this.

I suspect that your evening NovoRapid shot lasts considerably longer than your daytime shot and as you approach the end of the day, you are essentially running out of basal insulin.

You have a number of choices, which include increasing your daytime amount, completely modifying your whole regime and going to three shots. It's entirely up to you which you choose!
