Hi

Would someone please confirm that if one buys a Libre 2 sensor, over the counter, can they use the Libre app without having an Abbott account, iPhone?

A friend, pre-diabetic, wants to keep an eye on her blood sugars, over Christmas/New Year, hence the question. Alternatively, can she use an older monitor that was originally supplied, to me, when I first used Libre (pre-Libre 2 and before app became available)

Many thanks :)

Juggluco app has the following “ Librelink needs an e-mail address and password and regular contact with a server for I don't know what reasons. The last time I had to press a few times on accept related to altered conditions of use, but did Librelink know that before it made contact with the server? One time on holiday in an area without mobile internet connection, Librelink refused to function without internet connection. Happily I already had Juggluco, which doesn't use a server. Most of the activity of Librelink consists of Firebase Analytics gathering information on your smartphone. Juggluco doesn't use Firebase Analytics. Librelink sends all your glucose measurements to their server (as you can see in Libreview); Juggluco doesn't.”

Although JG is an Android app, it would seem likely that the regular contact with Abbott server will still be required. Librelink transfers data to the Abbott database as does the Abbott monitor.
Use of an old Abbott monitor could be problematic as
1/ I am unsure if it would start the L2.
2/ if it did, it would attempt to transfer data to the account it was originally registered too.

What is the issue about not having an Abbott “account” : it may simply be an email address to register/record the data?

I am sure the libre 1 had a different sensor to the libre2.

Librelink can be used on an iPhone without a reader but I’m sure your friend will need to set up an account.

Why is she opposed to downloading the LibreLink app? Seems the easiest way to go at this, and it will give her access to LibreView too.

The reader for the Libre1 doesn't do alarms, which shouldn't be an issue in this case. Just swipe along the sensor more often. Dutch Libre1 reader still worked on Libre2 after 8 years (Haven't tried in the past year, and only assuming it's the same in the UK).

Thank you
My friend has no issue downloading and using the LibreLink app.
I was asking if one needed an account with Abbott to use the app. She doesn't have an account with Abbott, only buying a sensor on occasions, just to be sure her levels are still only pre-diabetic, or less, especially at times such as Christmas and New Year, when we tend to want to eat more etc.
She's going to download the app tomorrow (Friday) and see what details are required and, hopefully, be able to use the App

Thanks very much

She can simply download the app.
No need to have an account purchasing their products!

She'll also be able to log into LibreView.

I hope so but I've found my 'old' Libre 2 monitor which, although not as useful as the app, would suffice, if that's all that will work.
Either way, she can go ahead, buy a sensor and get going.
Thanks and Happy Christmas and New Year to you and the team :)
