Libre2 reading

So had the libre fitted today and it’s showing 11.4 - what does this covert to in terms of what my test result was (126 mmol/mol)

Hi @Paulcambs , it’s not possible to make a direct comparison between the two readings as they are measuring different things. Have a read of this to understand how an HbA1c is measured, that is your 126 mmol/mol number:

The 11.4 mmol/l is a snap shot, it’s your blood sugar at that moment in time. You can enter your numbers into this calculator, but bear in mind it only gives a ball part figure in my opinion:

The reading has gone from 12.4 down to 9.8 and says glucose in range - is this normal - given I was def way over at testing - I’ve only been on the meds & low carb diet for about 5 days

Random readings are difficult to interpret. I would advise you start some methodical testing. Have you seen this blog by one of our members. Paragraph 2 has info about testing around mealtimes.

Record your readings along with the food you ate. A spreadsheet is useful for this. You will find out what meals you can tolerate blood sugar wise and observe the (hopefully) downward trend as you get into the swing of things.

Ok so had to have a new sensor as they kept coming off now got the sticky cover over it and seems much more secure. Ok so my reading all day was like between 6-7 .. my alarm is set for 4.5 and it went off in the night drank some orange juice and it went back up. On waking the reading was 4.6 started to move a bit when I was up and about so I ate a slice of whole meal toast and it’s and it went up to 6 but soon as I sit and relax it comes down again to 5.6 . So couple of questions
1) is it normal to drop when resting
2) is the 4.4 4.3 at night anything to be concerned about
3) I’ve been on a low carb diet to get my initial test result of 126 down .. have I over done it and do I need to add carbs in the morning
Sorry for all the questions I’m waiting on the blood results for antibodies to see if I’m a type 1 rather than 2 .. starting to think I might need insulin for the lows (I’ve been concentrating on getting the number down now it seems it’s gone the other way)

I’ll have a go at answering your questions.
1) My blood sugars go down while resting, especially during the night.
2) I wouldn’t worry about readings of 4.something, during sleep. You may have felt a bit odd as your body needs to get used to lower readings now you are taking actions to improve. Some apparent lows in the night maybe compression lows, that is when you sleep on the sensor and it can’t read your levels correctly.
3) I wouldn’t be adding carbs in the morning. Livers are clever things, they are very good at chucking out glucose especially first thing in the morning to get you going when you get up.
Then there’s this:

.. starting to think I might need insulin for the lows
Insulin lowers blood sugars so certainly wouldn’t be a treatment for lows.
