LIdl Rolls

I have been panic buying - 16 rolls at one store and the last 4 at the other store. So I am set for a while.

Meanwhile my partner had a burst of enthusiasm and rang Lidl (as opposed to emailing) and spoke to a very helpful person who said that as far as she could establish there was no plan to stop producing the rolls, and also took on board the importance to the Diabetic community.

Awaiting further confirmation.

Meanwhile I will have about 30 rolls in the freezer to tide me over whilst everything is sorted out.

It may be worth mounting a social meeja campaign just to up the profile with Lidl.

How on earth did she get through on a phone? I have searched everywhere and only found one number that is a centralised department with a recorded message. No human beings.

@Bluetit1802 this phone number was at the bottom of my (unhelpful) email from Lidl. Not sure if it is the one you’ve already found.

Feeling very lucky as I managed to pick up 12 rolls at my local store this morning. Freezer now has as many as it can cope with.
 
Hardcore survivalists have another freezer outside.
 

Thanks. It was the 370 number that I rang. I am a donkey brain, I didn't try the other one.

I am really miffed. The Burgen I bought raises my levels more than I am used to if I have a slice. If I have half a slice I am not satisfied and feel a lot less full than with half a Lidl roll.
 

I’m beginning to think that the email replies are automated. I’ve tried twice now and neither response has answered the question I asked.

They are definitely automated. We have all had identical replies from different people, and they are identical to the ones I had last time this happened.
 
This is the reply from Facebook Lidl. I told them about their use for people with diabetes.

Lidl UKSorry to disappoint you, C****. We do change our products from time to time for various reasons. We'll let the Buying team know your feedback on the protien rolls for their consideration.
 
Just got off the phone. Apparently they are changing supplier and they could be out of stock for a few weeks. This happened with the Apple turnovers as well she said and took a few weeks to get them back in stock.

I did try and ask who supplies them, I may dig round the net to see if they say who makes the in store bread for them. Wish me luck
 

That sounds positive.
 
A tweet and a post on Lidl’s Facebook page, saying how important they are to diabetics. I can bake but to remake these and at 29p each would be a bit of a chore. If it’s at all possible, anything like the ingredients in these aren’t cheap.

The Tesco high protein bread is delicious,10 grams a slice,very tasty.
 
I was passing a Dorset Lidl, called in on spec and helped myself to what they had...

Easibake Foods Ltd, Pont-Y-Felin Ave, New Inn, Griffithstown, Pontypool NP4 0DQ used to make the part baked bread/frozen dough for Lidl. The haulage firm I work for used to deliver it to the Lidl RDCs.
 
This bread taste better than LIDl low carb rolls, IMHO and looks more like bread.

Low carb bread
Made in a Panasonic.

1 Sachet of dried Yeast.
1 level teaspoon of sugar
300 mils of warm, but not hot, water
Pour all together in breadmaker bucket, stir and leave for c.20mins until working.

Melt 3 large tablespoons of coconut oil in suitable recepticle surrounded by container with hot water in as jacket.
Beat an egg in a cup
Crush 4 Garlic cloves (I dont use salt and garlic improves taste, you can use salt if you wish as a dry ingredient)


Dry ingredients: mix in large bowl
120 grms Wheat Gluten flour
30 grms of ground Almonds
25 grms Jumbo oats
60 grms of Soya flour
25grms Wheat bran
30grms Flax seed meal
Garlic ( four crushed cloves added as fragments)
Add beaten egg.
add coconut oil and yeast, water sugar mix from bucket of breadmaker.
Mix really well and
Return mix to bread maker, push stiff mix down round paddle with spatular and set on 5.
(stand, mix, rise and bake.) total three hours.

I cut my loaf vertically in 10 slices and calculated each slice as 6.6 carbs but a lot more protein.
If I get a chance will post pictures.

Next time I intend to scale up by a third of original ingredients and add second egg and the bread loaf will be larger and have c.9 carbs per slice. I find this protein bread much more filling than I used to find ordinary bread that has a high GI.

I make coconut flour mug bread in a microwave. 1 mug of bread comes to 230 kcal and 4.2 grams of carb. Does me for breakfast. I recently had to stop my daily slice of Vogels which was my favourite this is pretty good

2 tablespoons of coconut flour
1 tablespoon of sunflower oil
1 tablespoon of cream
1/4 teaspoon of baking powder
1 egg

Put all the incredients in a mug and mix them up. When they are all blended, put the mug in a microwave for 90 seconds. When cooked tip the bread out of the mug to cool.

I have it with my scrambled eggs in the morning, or with a bit of bacon. Get a lot more bread for your carbs like this. Thinking of doing it using flavoured oils such as chilli, basil or garlic.

It would be a tragedy if we don't see these again. I'm not sure Lidl realise how unique they are - far, far lower in carbs than any other low-carb 'bread'.

I would have thought they would appeal not only to diabetics, but people into certain fitness regimes as well who try to minimise carbs.

I also know someone at work who loves them, she mentioned them ages ago before I did, and she has no need for low carb foods, she just liked the look of them so tried them and raved about them.
