Does anyone else suffer with light headedness and dizzyness???

Ive just been diagnosed as Type II Diabetes, but have had the light headedness for over a year now, and if i turn my head quick or stand up quick i go light headed!

Is this one of the symptoms????????

My blood pressure has been up and down, but the last twice i had it checked it was perfect, but guess ill know more when i have my 1st Diabetic appointment on the 10th of August!
The doctor didnt say that it was a symptom i just wondered, as i have high cholesterol as well.

Hi spiritguide

I think what you are experiencing is called postural hpyotension and it is actually associated with diabetes, here is a link, there are lots of pages with information about this if you look on google, you probably have been diabetic some time before your diagnosis.

All the best

Thank you Karen :D I will bookmark the link and study it, my names karen too :D

Oh and Ken my blood pressure was 114/86 which is perfect for me lol as its been nearly double that on the top and 101 on the bottom before now, im surprised im still here lol

hi spiritguide,
that's very interesting - I've been having that lately and was going to post about it but you beat me to it!
About three months ago I started feeling dizzy when I stood up after tying my shoelaces. Never had anything like that in my life before. The past week I've been having it often, usually when I stand up - still pretty mild, but not exactly fun.
I'm 48, a type 2, diagnosed a year ago but I was probably already diabetic for several years prior to that. I'm on Metformin and blood pressure pills. My blood pressure is normally around 125/85. I have a home bp meter (as well as a blood sugar meter) but never found any huge deviations from those numbers.
Ho hum.

As the previous posters have pointed out it could all be down to blood pressure but it needs attention. Your Bp may be normal but it can and does drop in certain circumstances. Here is a link to the Blood Pressure association website with more information.

Most people with a blood pressure of 90/60 mmHg or lower won’t experience any unusual symptoms or require any form of treatment. However a small number of people with low blood pressure may experience symptoms such as:
light-headedness / dizziness
nausea
blurred vision
general feeling of weakness
feeling confused
a temporary loss of consciousness (fainting)

These symptoms may only occur when you stand up, change position quickly from lying down to sitting up or after periods of inactivity or exertion. This kind of low blood pressure is called ‘postural hypotension’. This is what Karen mentioned.

I suffered from this and still do if I'm not careful when standing up. My BP is always around 110/70 when tested so is very good but when standing up or even bending down I have passed out once or twice. Fortunately I wasn't hurt but there is always the possibility that I could be.

See your Gp as it is also something that could be caused by medication or other things and it should not be ignored.
The cause needs investigation and there are treatments for it.

Thank you Ken! I have had the dizziness for well over a year now, and guess i shouldve had it checked out before now, but have had other health issues going on that were more important at the time!
I have fallen over when i turned around too quickly, and i cant go up ladders or look up for too long as my head goes whizzy, but i know what you mean about getting up too quickly, i do have to sit rite back down again at times! And Diabetes is in our family history too! I already have High Cholesterol through inheriting it, so my doctor said, there is a technical term for that but cannot remember it at present!

Thank you all for replying to my posts, I was a bit nervous at first about posting, but had such a warm welcome will now enjoy the forum more! :D
