The term "big boned" lol repeatedly told this growing up!
So my hbA1c when tested in December was 103. My DN wants me to have levels within normal range. The situation is I have gone LCHF, upped my exercise since diagnosis, losing weight and gaining more muscle and energy, which is so far bringing my levels to anything from 7.7 - 9.5 upon waking and very rarely go beyond 10.5 ish throughout the day/evening. Now I know they are classed as high still, but I think I have done pretty well and worked **** hard to get my levels to the numbers they are at - in a space of just over one month. I am not on meds despite DN suggesting them every time. She seems more concerned with the high readings in the evening and wants me to have normal readings full stop.
I had to ask what my hbA1c was and was told that stress had no impact on bg levels o_O For me that is an impossible assumption to make. I have mental health issues that my GP is aware of and that my anxieties etc, all have an impact on my BP so in turn have an impact on my BG:mad:
I just feel I am somewhat "banging ones head against a brick wall" with my DN. I don't really want to speak to her anymore is was hard enough over the phone. I was losing weight before my diagnosis at times not really intending to, I tend to lose weight really quickly with exercise and with stress it just falls off. Could I be type 1? I was told they cannot determine if I am type 1 or type 2. Sorry rant over ...... x

1st of all WELL DONE at decreasing your levels that far in a month. If the DN is that unhelpful, insist that you see the GP for your appointments (whether face to face or virtually) there are tests that can be done to determine what "type" you are they are a c-peptide and a GAD. Has the DN/GP check for ketones in your blood/pee? this can be another indicator (unless you're low carb/keto and in nutritional ketosis), but DKA levels are much higher I believe,. Have a big (virtual) hug from me

Thanks you Lessci, I didn't have ketones in my wee just sugar, as for the bloods I have no idea. Might be a worth asking. Just feel really fed up with it all. My wake up reading was 9.6 this morning and before lunch 9.4 so I guess I must be doing something right. Virtual hug accepted :) x

You have made great strides and whilst you are lucky to have a low carb aware, ambitious not complacent goals based nurse it sounds like her motivational and communication skills need work

also it is wrong that they cannot tell which type you are. C peptide, or insulin test and antibody test can all help do that. Ask her about them.

Very high levels, recent unintended weight loss as potential markers for type 1. Being able to control levels, successfully, with low carb perhaps more to type 2.

Thank you - I am going to contact my GP, she did take 3 vials of blood but did not say what they were for. If I eat carbs like bread anything wheat based, pastry, potatoes, oats etc my BG shoots up and I feel really warm. If I were to eat any thing sweet and carby the same thing happens. Shall I just shoot myself now lol (joke) x

Feel free to rant away a lot of DN's are pretty useless..

As for your much improved reading to get an HbA1c of 103 mmol/l your bloods should have been averaging 15.8 mmol/l so to have got them down to 9's and 10's in a month or so is brilliant so well done you!.

Sounds like you have made determined efforts to lose weight so that makes T1 less likely and T2 probably your problem but you're doing exactly the right thing to ring it under firm control.
The joys of low carb eating are about to hit you with yummy deliciousness.. all the things that we've been told are really bad for us like meat an dairy are in fact extraordinarily healthy.. who woulda thought it.

Thank you - I have been low carb eating and not as hungry as I used to be. Just ravenous after a work out and want to eat like a caveman! I have been eating steak after a work out which seems to help. All other times is white meats and fish with salads.

I tend to go for more beef.. seems uniquely satiating.. your blood sugar figures are doing really well.. keep it up and you'll hopefully soon be back down to "normal" readings.

I do find that its the only thing that can keep me full for longer, chicken just does not work on the days of exercise. Would love a burger but would spoil the hard work!:arghh:

If you get yourself a waffle maker then you can make cheese waffles, which are low carb, but ideal for putting each side of a burger or some bacon. Adding a small amount of onion and blending it into the eggs seems to make the most of quite small amounts of onion.
