Liver dumping sugar

Can anyone explain the process of your liver dumping sugar into your blood. I know it happens during the night and I have solved that problem with a late protein snack. Can it happen between breakfast and lunch if you don’t snack? Getting discouraged by huge bs even with a proper breakfast.

Could it be possible that your raised BG levels after breakfast is caused by your proper breakfast?

It is called glucogenisis.
It is a natural automatic response to lower energy glucose levels in your blood. It is a boost when waking, so called dawn phenomenon. It is necessary for exercise or work, however walking tempers it naturally.
There are many reasons for it especially brain function when food is not available. And more.

Hope that helps.

Hi, the full explanation is really technical and you can find it here:

I think I understand the bit about "Insulin Resistance" at the end.

What I've picked up from various reading is that your liver acts as a sort of glucose regulator, so it makes glucose (as opposed to using digested glucose) to maintain what it currently thinks of as a "normal" blood glucose level.

It also, in an effort to be helpful, dumps glucose into the bloodstream so we have available fuel in the mornings. In my case it will go on doing this from before waking until at least 2pm, which is when I got bored with testing and had something to eat. I rarely have breakfast but a couple of hazelnuts is enough to shut it off.

It seems to be an entirely natural thing - it's just that most people aren't aware of it because most people don't test.
