Hello, fellow diabetics. I would like to enquire whether anybody has any experience of living abroad for longer than a year? Please share how you managed to continue controlling your type-1 diabetes.

For your information, I’m from the UK and I’m on NovoRapid and Lantus insulin injections. The country where I’m currently living and working is Belarus. It’s not in the EU and diabetes care over here is minimal, although some types of insulin medication are available. My problem is that I will need more Lantus insulin by March 2014, and if there is none of my insulin available in Belarus, is it possible to get insulin shipped abroad from home, via UPS, for instance?

I would also like to discuss and share with other members any experiences that they had or are having in controlling their diabetes while living abroad.
Thank you.

The only experience I have I living in Spain. I couldn't get my drug in Spain (anywhere in Spain) and had to get some from UK. Because it was a prescribed medication I had,to pay for a courier to hand carry - very expensive. It may be cheaper for you to fly to UK, pick up a quantity and then fly back.
