hey

i currently take 18 units of levemir insulin in the evening at around 11pm for my long acting insulin. my blood sugars tend to be lower in the mornings but late afternoon and evenings they seem to constantly be high. even if i inject my fast acting insulin correctly they still go high. or they will start rising on there own with no sugar or carbs in my system? am i doing something wrong? what does everyone else do?

Hi @emily deacon Levemirs profile lasts around 18-26 hours so if your going high later on in the day it would suggest your dose needs splitting for a good 24 hour coverage, I would call your DSN tomorrow to confirm your change with them and to agree the dosage split amount.

I agree about splitting levemir doses. I find it lasts about 12 - 14 hours so take mine roughly 12 hours apart. Seems to work well for me.

Hi. Levemir only lasts 12 plus hours so I use a different Bolus ratio towards the end as the Levemir runs out to compensate. My DN said not to split so I haven't but I think she was right as I don't see the need when you can compensate with the Bolus and save one injection?

That's ok if you eat roughly the same time everyday. Say you eat late or not at all? I don't think you would be getting the most out of MDI without splitting levemir.
