I am a full blown diabetic I am on 4 injections a day I take a rabbit active insulin before each meal to break down what I am eating and a slow releasing insulin at bed time so I can have insulin running in the background. My Doctor has given me the wrong insulin for 14 months. my doctor has given me a rapid active insulin to take at bedtime instead of the slow releasing insulin that would've have made me go into a hypo most nights for 14 months also in the 14 months I had mood swings that it effected everyone in the household and at work told my doctor about my mood swings he taught me that I was in denial from taking my grandson on the year before I could not see this my energy levels I couldn't do a days work Never mind overtime my doctor said me for tests to find out what was up with me all came back clear when I was in hospital I felt like it was my fault because of the way my body was doing thinks I got the expression do nurses looked at me thinking I was drinking heavily but I have a drink once in a blue moon maybe twice a month and that only one I kept going back to my doctor telling him I'm fighting with my wife and shouting and my grandson but 12 months prior that I passed Medical to take my grandson on I was very placid before then and I feel I got that pacification back since 4 August last year.

but no one is telling me if there was any long term damage I keep asking I'm only getting shog shoulders so if any one can help me with this please do leave a comment

Would you mind if I asked what insulin your doctor prescribed...?
Yep I've got the vibe some nurses think we brought the D on ourself & feel like a rehabilitated drug user sometimes too..!

But let's stay positive.. You'll get shed loads of advice..

I'm not surprised you had mood swings!

Oh right. Nowt to do with being hypo for 14 months and no doubt BG's all over the place then ? :rolleyes: Sounds to me that your GP is blaming everything else apart from a big , fat mistake that was made.

Just my opinion, change your GP :rolleyes:

You do sound as if you were having repetitive hypos, the mood swings are definitely signs of low blood sugars! Get your meds checked!
The long term damage is in the future, do something about now! The now will have an effect on the future!
 
I agree wholeheartedly with the comments above.

Putting the emotion aside.

How long have you actually been diabetic.?
Has your doctor issued you with a blood glucose meter?
Along with my initial question, what insulin are you on now & what did your doctor prescribe??
Did your doctor refer you to a diabetes clinic/specialist??

I empathise with what has happened but a little background would help on what your GP has done with regards to your diagnosis & subsequent diabetes management... ( though I use the latter term loosely.)

Those figures are not disastrous..

Your insulin prescription is different to mine & your 1991 diagnosis date in relation to your currant age suggests "LADA"? But don't quote me on that!!
I've been diabetic since I was 8.

I'm just setting this up for help from the more relevant people..
 
What insulin combination where you on when it was the wrong insulin...........?

Your on the right stuff now and with blood sugars below 10, your doing OK....:)
 
To rephrase the question..

What did the doctor give you for the "14 month" period that you used the "wrong insulin"???
 
was it the same insulin you have now, just being used at the wrong time of day............?

I am just curious to know the severity of wrong doing from the doctor......
 
Am I right in assuming you were using 18 units of Humalog at night instead of the Levemir over the 14 month period..?
