Long shot request - Accu-chek black chip needed!

Hi,

My wife has just opened her new box of Accu-chek test strips to discover that they now need this new black chip, and she only has the white one.

The instructions helpfully say that Roche will send a chip out, but that doesn't help greatly when it's nearly midnight on a Friday, and my wife is away for the weekend from 10:30 tomorrow morning, and is now getting unsurprisingly stressed about this.

So, real long shot I know, but is there by any chance anyone on here who has a spare black chip, who lives anywhere within a reasonable distance of Epsom, and who wouldn't mind giving it to a case in need at some point pretty early tomorrow morning?

Alternatively, does anyone have any idea where she might be able to find one near Victoria station tomorrow afternoon?

Thanks in advance!

Just to add, if some kind soul would be willing to pop one in the post, that would at least beat Roche's 3-5 working days from Monday! :)

I've got one, but are you sure there isn't one in the box? They put it in with every box of strips.

Hey, those chips used to be coded to the exact batch the strips matched to. That's what the chip is for so you don't get erroneous readings between batches.

Yes, positive. We've checked both boxes. The recorded message on the Roche helpline says that the box may contain a chip, but as the black chips never need to be changed (unlike the white ones which were batch-specific), I guess they only included them for the first few batches until they presumably figured most people had one. Looks like my wife was unlucky and must've got her last prescription just before they changed!

That's what has changed between the white chips and the black ones. The white chips were indeed batch specific, but with the black ones, once you've actually got one, you just leave it in the tester and never need to change it again.

I would imagine it saves Roche money, and once my wife actually does have one, it saves a little bit of hassle each time she starts on a new pack.

Hi

Ive got loads of the black chips for Aviva meters. Every box that I get on prescription has one in. If you would like one, send me a PM and I will put one in the post. Am a bit puzzled as to why Accu chek have these strips without the black chip ??

You will need to leave some more msgs on the forum though for you to send me a PM. Dont leave yr name and address on your msgs do it by PM.

Hope that helps :)

Ok

I think you have to post about 7 or 8 msgs in order to send a PM.

Its a miserable day here today..... rain and mixture of snow. What's it like where you live?

Many thanks for you help, but my sudden silence was me going off to pick one for her locally after phoning round some of the local chemists and finding one who still had some tester pack sort of things (10 strips in each) with chips!

To answer your question, however, she's been type 1 for 30 years (since she was 10), and got a pump about 2 weeks ago which, fingers crossed, is proving a great success. :)

Ive just realised from opening up my latest prescription for teststrips that Accu chek have changed the packaging for the Aviva strips and no longer put the black chip in.

Glad you were able to find a pharmacy that could sell you a box of 10 with the black code chip :)
