I do not have diabetes
I have not had a formal diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, however I have always struggled with low sugar levels. I m 36 suffered from adult acne. Hydranitis and now currently depression. I put symptoms over the last two years down to anxiety and depression ie feeling agitated, sweating but recently found out about diabetes symptoms me looking back I’m not sure if I’m being paranoid or if it’s something I should get checked out. I have previously been in hospital due to blacking out at which point I was given an intravenous saline drip and told I have low potassium levels. Fainted on many occasions due to low blood sugar. Had heart palpitations.Had high sugar levels in blood tests previously but fasting levels were ok. I’ve always had a susceptibility to infections etc. had an abscess on my face which needed to be lanced, poorly healing wounds etc. otherwise I’m very fit and healthy. I have always put these symptoms down to anxiety and stress however I’m wondering if it could be diabetes. I wondered if anybody would be able to shed some light on it. Thanks

Hi there,

I am looking for advice. I have not had a diagnosis of diabetes however I have always struggled with low blood secure levels. But in most recent years I have been really struggling and looking back I’m starting to think I may have just not been diagnosed. Most of the symptoms I have I have put down to stress and anxiety but I’m wondering if it could be mild diabetes and if that’s even a thing. To date I have suffered from the following: fainting due to low blood defat levels, hospitalisation where I got an intravenous drip and had low potassium levels, abscesses on my face which needs to be lanced, hydranitis, acne, heart palpitations, wounds unable to heal, I have a pencil sized whole in my leg from an insect bite. And most recently depression and fatigue. The fatigue i have put down to medication. I had glucose tests previously where they came back high but my fasting levels were ok so the doctor never took it any further. Would appreciate people’s thoughts here. Thanks

Hi @Lookingfirinformation and welcome to the forums.

To be honest, low blood sugar isn't what I normally associate with T1 diabetes, though there are other types of diabetes that it might be relevant to. eg take a look at the reactive hypoglycemia forum.

Forum rules rightly don't let us diagnose on the forum (we aren't doctors and don't have access to your medical history) but I can suggest you go to see your doctor about your concerns. Have you had an hba1c test?

Thanks for the information. I had my bloods taken years ago but not sure what type they were. The doctor said that my glucose levels were borderline high. I then took fasting tests which came back ok. The reason I was thinking it was type 1 was because I have recently found out that my father has type 1. I am fit and healthy, not overweight eat quite a low sugar diet, which made me think it would unlikely be type 2. But I’ll look at the other forums. Thanks again

Never used a meter. Wouldn’t know where to start with measuring glucose tbh. I just know my levels are low when I experience side effects

There are lots of things that have similar effects as low blood glucose, and low BG is pretty rare in people who are not on strong diabetes medication. I wouldn't be too sure your issues are due to low sugar levels without testing.
Fainted on many occasions due to low blood sugar.
Have you ever seen a medical professional after those episodes?
Fainting from low blood sugar is very, very rare, and I really wouldn't assume spontaneous fainting has anything to do with low blood sugars.

If you're worried about having diabetes, what about asking your GP for an hba1c test, that's the one to diagnose diabetes.
