Lose of taste, sour tongue....

For the last couple of months my sense of taste has got up and left me. I've not expereinced any reflux, no coughs or temperatures... I have felt washed out and generally meh....
GP wants to get me on Omeprazole.... I'm not keen as no reflux and once on it's meant to be tricky to get off.
My FBG have increased by a unit, 1.0, averaged 5.2 and now regularly getting 6's.... but other tests durning the day are good, for me, round 5.2.
I was wondering if anyone else had such an experience.

It could be an otherwise asymptomatic respiratory infection, although a'a couple of months' is a long time for that. What does the doctor think?
 
The obvious thing to think of in the current climate with loss of taste is Covid? I assume this has been thought of?
