Losing it.

Type of diabetes
Type 2
I was diagnosed with type 2 last November. Was put on metformin 2x daily. My BS was 27.5 and HBA 11.
I lost a stone in weight. I started to watch all carbs changed my diet, no sugar sweets biscuits cakes etc.
Had my last HBA in Feb and it came back as 7. My BS levels in the morning are round the 7 mark, during the day
around 5.5 to 6.5 sometimes a little higher.
My doctor took me off metformin because of stomach upset so at the moment I am on nothing, although blood tests
showed potassium levels slightly high.
I have now lost nearly 2 stones in weight and very slowly still going down even though BS are lower and HBA is lower.
I have had quite a lot more exercise due to us getting a new puppy. Can anybody tell me if they have the same symptoms as am now getting a bit worried about still losing weight slowly. I see me doc again next week. :?

Hi Susan

You've done really well getting such improvement in your blood glucose levels - well done!

Are you underweight, that you are so worried about your continuing slow weight loss? Controlling your carbohydrate intake will cause you to lose weight, usually slowing and stabilising when you reach your ideal weight. If your weight goes too low for your liking (which sometimes happens) you can increase your calorie intake to stop it, but be careful not to increase your carbohydrates too much, or your BG levels might rise again. Calorie-dense foods, such as nuts, cheese, avocados, cream and butter, will help. Just a little bit extra will bring your calories up.

The extra exercise with the pup will be keeping your metabolism working well, and contributing a bit to the weight loss.

Come back when you've seen your GP, and let us know what s/he says.

I wish I had continuing slow weight loss :( - but I've still got a lot to lose

Hi Viv.

Thanks for your reply. Have taken on board the things you have said about calorie intake and if my weight does go
too low will try it out and see if there is any improvement.
Im not underweight yet and am losing weight slowly but all this is a bit confusing I was only diagnosed last Nov and have had a lot
to take in and understand. Diet Carbs BG levels been on a desmonds course etc etc. I do realise diabetes and changing diets
to low carbs and calories can make you lose weight but 2 stones and still losing slowly just worried me, because I didn't really understand it but am a lot clearer now.
Went to the docs yesterday, and have to say he is very good, checks everything and carries any problems he finds through.
He has put me back on metformin slow release ( was hoping he would say I could try keeping BG down with diet ) my BG levels in the morning are still around 7 mark without metformin. I have to take one in the morning after breakfast for 2 weeks and then 2 every morning. Go back to see him in 4 weeks will see what happens then.

One again thanks for your reply which was very helpful, I understand more now. :) Susan.
