I have been noting my readings creep up and up in the last month or so. I’m in the 6s mostly, the occasional 5 but a day of all 8s! I eat hardly any carbs, as I have done since diagnosis. Boiled eggs for breakfast, chicken salad for lunch sometimes with avocado, snacking on nuts (very low carb ones), cheese and cold meats, and some protein and broccoli for dinner, if at all. Most days I’m well under 20g. I don’t spike after meals and often have under 1 of a rise.

I am 5’8” and 144lbs and size 10/12. I don’t want to or need to lose weight. However, I was wondering if I lose a small amount of weight would that help? Anyone else gone beyond their healthy weight to stabilise their BS? I’m told I’m already too thin but I do have some fat on my stomach, although more of a bike tyre than a car tyre!

Any advice appreciated. Thanks x

Flora - Very annoying for you.

In order to kick the discussion off, can I ask if you've started a new batch of strips, around the time you've noticed your numbers go up? Sometimes a new batch of strips will read just a little differently.

As you are already on this voyage of discovery, the testing is so important to find out why certain foods raise your BS. I have an intolerance to many foods, not only carbs, my body does not cope well with even some very low carb food. It could be anything, even the protein may cause the small spike.
I would never have believed that even what I cook with will affect my health.
You just have to keep experimenting, it is so individual.
I have to avoid an excessive insulin response and according to the insulin index, chicken is rated high.
It may be that your insulin response initially is weak and even the very low carb can be too much to prevent the spike.

No. I didn’t notice a change. I have had different batches but nothing suddenly obvious. Thanks x

I’ve never heard of an insulin index. I’ll google but any specific places to look?
If my insulin response is weak to very low carb (although seems to be getting worse) what can be done? I have this nagging feeling I may be type 1 (LADA) although so far all test negative. Thanks x

Do you currently have any tubs from another batch you could try, mindfully over a couple of days?

I have a new tub so I could try that. Hadn’t thought of that. Thank you x

Ideally from a different batch/lot, as opposed to just a new pot, although that's still relevant sometimes.

The Lot Number of the Codefree posts is just above the expiry date.

Just looked and the previous batch were different I think. Next batch the same but I have a delivery soon so will change to a different batch then and see if it makes a difference. Thank you

If you do a comparison and they're out, but consistently so, by whatever amount, you can always do a mental correction to whatever your monitor shows - provided you're not on strong diabetes meds and having to test to calculate doses or fitness to drive.

Thanks. No meds....at the moment.
