Lost control

With the help of the diabetes support team at the Royal Surrey I've managed good control and had acceptable Hba1c levels for many years. That is until the last couple of months. On average my Novorapid doses were 8 units for breakfast, 2 units at lunchtime and 10 units for dinner. Levemir was 7 units morning and evening. Now it's completely unpredictable.

The old Novorapid doses (Libre calculated) see me going too high but if I increase them by one or two sometimes it's not enough and other times I'm having hypos.
Evening doses of Levemir are just as bad. I've upped them to 9 units, sometimes it works and at others this sort of thing happens (see attached image).
I've also found that blood glucose is too high at betdtime, so I've been taking a corrective dose of Novorapid. That again produces random results.
We moved to Gloucestershire 8 months ago. I've been referred to a diabetes clinic and I'm in a holding queue but as yet no sign of an appointment.
Any idea what's going on?

Hi @rubecula , here's some possibilities to think about....

How good are you about rotating your injection sites? Any chance you've got some hyperlipotrophy going on?

Your signature says you are LADA. Any chance your honeymoon period has only just ended?

How confident are you about the accuracy of your libre?

Do you have any new health issues which might be messing up your control?

Hopefully some others will be along soon to make suggestions.

Good luck.

Hi. I have very similar problems. I suspect hyperlipotrophy is the main problem so I'm trying to find newer sites - not easy. Sometimes I find it takes 2 hours or more for the insulin to start having any effect based on my Libre 2 graphs.

Thanks @EllieM and @Daibell

No, I rotate all the time using stomach and both thighs

I've been diabetic for over 20 years so I assume the honeymoon is well over

It's a Libre 1, the current sensor is reading slightly high. At the moment I'm getting through a lot of test strips to keep checking on it.
I'm going to write to my GP to see if they can do anything to bring the referral forward.
