Hi Friends

i have lost almost 2 and a hafl stone since being diagnosed in may, my blood sugars are rather good....fasting late 4s ealry 5s... through day, 6 and 7s roughly they have come down nicely since losing weight...so why do i still feel fatigued?, i'm on iron , had all the other usual blood tests done before and all ok , ...and sometimes i feel anxious for no reason, wonder if it could be hormonal too as i think the GP said diabetes can effect your hormones?

i go for my HBa1c later in the month and will mention this to the nurse....i wiuld have thought losing weight, eating good food , swimming etc would have made me feel better

Which blood tests have you had done Roxy?

Have you had Thyroid, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D done?

They are not keen on doing Vitamin D done as it is apparently expensive.

Denise, what do you think are reasonable dosages for vitamins B12 and D for a person who is deficient?

I learned recently that metformin can cause a B12 deficiency.

Vitamin D3 is the one to take, in an absorbable form.

If you Google it there are plenty of articles. Read around and make your own minds up.

Because of my age and our northern latitude I take it even in summer, and I take about 2000iu in summer and 4000iu in winter, which I cannot recommend to anyone else because these are well above the RDA.

I don't know about Vit B12 'cos I'm not deficient, but I am tested for it every year in my routine blood tests.

Hypothyroidism doesn't necessarily show in the standard test. I've never been outside the accepted range, but fortunately I managed to persuade my GP to treat the symptoms. I'm now on 100mg of levothyroxine daily, feel tons better, and am still showing within the accepted range on tests!

thanks for your replies, i'm really confused as to what might be causing it....some say its the sweetners stuff!! being on a diet that requires it , ...i aslo wonder if diabetes can effect hormones?!! and bring on anxiety, ...i'm sick of the shortness of breath...it maybe anxiety but i can feel great and BAM its there!! i did have an ECG when diagnosed...i'm sure as hell things should be on the up for me after losing weight , eating better, numbers down.....maybe i am approaching that time of life...i am 50 but still have reg periods....there as been a few stresses of late, as well as taking iron meds i take a Vit B complex supplement too...i'm really getting fed up, and to be honest i dont think the nurse or GP will do anything...will just say its anxiety!!!

thanx friends xxx

I was wondering whether you have had a chest Xray recently.
I came down with what I thought was a bad chest infection and then went to the docs
because I was getting breathless. Really bad when I was walking upstairs and on the flat.
An x-ray showed that I had an enlarged heart and later I was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation as well. I too felt tired all the time and used to dust-sleep, hoover-sleep etc
I went on to have one temporarily successful cardio-version and one failed. But the tablets I'm now on keep me stable. Fingers crossed.
Prior to the 2nd cardio-version I was given an extra tablet to take and this made me even more tired. I later found out that this had affected my thyroid and luckily I stopped it after 6 weeks but during this time I had put on 21 lbs!
I am sure none of these apply to you but its as well tobe aware.
I hope you feel much better very soon.

Re your iron - have you had your iron levels testes since starting the iron tablets. I had the same problems some years ago when I was pregnant and found that I wan't absorbing iron in the gut (took eight years for the specialist to work it out) so had to go onto iron injections. Not exactly pain free but they did the trick and seemed to boost my iron levels for some time before being repeated. I've not had the need for injections for about 5 years now so fingers crossed that's one thing I can tick off for now
