DESMOND is an absolute waste of time and precious NHS moneyHas anyone seen an increase in their cholesterol levels by eating low carb high fat?
I've attended the DESMOND course today and found it really interesting.
I have leant that we T2's are all doomed and will be on medication for the rest of our life. ( I don't think so !)

Yes you need carbs with eat meal, it's also ok to eat chocolate, in moderation of course. I understood the mechanism of the low carbs, but the rest of the group left thinking everything is ok and the just need to cut their food in take.Cholesterol is a very interesting subject. There are a very large number of threads on the forum about cholesterol, statins and whether we should care about it.
My total cholesterol has gone up slightly while following a ketogenic diet but I really don't care. From my reading there is no real link between cholesterol levels and Cardio Vascular Disease apart from some rather flawed studies. Current thinking is that higher cholesterol could in fact be beneficial to longer life especially as we age and especially in women (doesn't quite work for me but hey..). So your cholesterol may go up for some it comes down .. more important is should you care?
Good to hear you have a note of scepticism re the Desmond.. did you learn anythhng useful or was it all "you need carbs with every meal" and "you're all doomed"?
Not all a waste of time. There was some interesting stuff. I feel sorry that the 12 of us who were they will not have the opportunity to speak again.DESMOND is an absolute waste of time and precious NHS money
But you do realise that you don't need carbs at all don't you? And as for chocolate best to try and check with your meter to see what effect it has.Yes you need carbs with eat meal, it's also ok to eat chocolate, in moderation of course. I disagreed with a lot of what they said. But you do realise that you don't need carbs at all don't you? And as for chocolate best to try and check with your meter to see what effect it has.
