Hi Shelly!
How are your kidneys?
Low blood iron can be a symptom of kidney disease, which is a fairly common complication of diabetes.
Also how are your BGs? If there's even a possibility of kidney problems, You need to keep your BG TIGHT( around 5) and your blood pressure down too.
Less scary and more common is heavy periods. If you are a woman of reproductive age that is 8)

Hi shelly,
I had the same thing happen to me in 2007. I began the iron suppliments and was send back for a blood test again some time after. Still showing low iron after the second blood test I was tested for ceoliac disease.this is a disease where the intestine lining is affected by gluten. You may have heard of people who stick to a gluten free diet?

The intestine lining consists of small hair like molecules which capture food nutrients as they pass through the intestine.gluten causes these hairs to lay flat and lead to low iron and other signs of malnutrition. Some ceoliacs are affected in different ways and have obvious signs after eating gluten. Others like myself were only diagnosed by initially detecting low iron in my blood tests.

to properly diagnose I was refered to a specialist. I was on a normal diet and after a few months had en endoscopy. This is a camera/pipe thingy that takes a swab from you intestine lining. This followed by a gluten free diet for a few months then the restest. First time my intestine lining hairs were flat(not normal), the second time they had regrown to how they should be.

From then in it's been a fullgluten free diet. Gluten is found in flour/ oats/barleyX.

You will see if researching that it not unusual for diabeties and ceoliacs to be found together.

Sorry if I have dragged on a little. I havejust joined this forums and will introduce myself on the relevant page soon.

Feel free to contact me if I can help.

You may just be suffering malnutrition and not be ceoliac but be rest assure it's managable and what's meant to be is meant to be.

Good luck and good health
