Treatment type
Tablets (oral)
Diagnosed with high blood pressure and on amlodipine 5mg also propranolol 80mg.

BP has improved and is mostly in the normal range.

This morning I was 84/58 which is low. I felt obliged to have a ciggy to raise my BP in order to take a tablet to lower it.

I am T2 and had my lowest fasting reading of 4.7 this morning. I have had a few low BP readings, always on waking.

Not sure what to make of it.

BP varies naturally and by quite a lot over a 24hr period Are you getting any symptoms with low bp?
When I was getting lows and feeling iffy with it, I got the docs to do a24hr bp trace ( pain in the bum cos the machine takes your bp every hour all day and night so sleep can be elusive)

Just wondered how long you had been taking the medication, and if you had lost any weight recently.

BP normally drops overnight because we are totally relaxed and asleep (and no stimulants such as nicotine, caffeine and alcohol). Mine tends to be low when I get up, but very quickly goes up again once I've started moving about. If you are concerned I would speak to your GP. He may wish to reduce the medication and see how it goes.

Meds started in December. Metformin SR 2000 dose started just over a week ago and BG has been dropping since.

Weight fluctuates 5lb or so. Trying to follow LCHF but been making mistakes in the quantity ingested. Not beating myself up, it's a learning curve.

My endocrinologist told me that bp that fails to drop overnight is a bad sign in terms of cardiovascular health as it indicates arterial stiffness - luckily she also declared herself most impressed by the size of my ‘ nocturnal dip” last time she ordered a 24 hour bp trace

Thanks. I will check it after about an hour after getting up. I think a talk with someone at the surgery is in order.
