Welcome @Angela@bingley

Did yourbdoctor tell you a diabetes type eg Type 1 or Type 2? What test did he/she do to diagnose you? Do you know the result of it (in figures)?

Not sure, diabetes is a condition of high blood sugar, and inflammation is usually thought to cause high blood sugar.

Do you know the numbers of your blood sugar levels on diagnosis? It seems like wires might be crossed somewhere and it is likely you have high blood sugar if you have been diagnosed diabetic.

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

I have what some people would call low blood sugar diabetes, but is better known as hypoglycaemia.
There are many forms of hypoglycaemia.
If you go to the forum on reactive hypoglycaemia, you can read all about the different types and read how we treat it!

Your nurse is right about the low carb diet.

Please, ask questions, you must be a bit anxious and confused about how to get control.

Best wishes.

Type 2 I had a set of blood tests done and have an appointment with the nurse a week on Monday. Don't have any figures was a bit shocked. Just told to follow a low carb diet and the nurse would tell me more. Bloods also showing inflammation.

Been back to the doctors today for more blood tests for inflammitary markers. Asked the nurse how can I have low blood sugar but be diabetic she looked at me puzzled, that's what the doctor told me last week. Turns out I'm not low blood sugar but higher than I should be at 48. Aghhh. Does my doctor know what she is doing?

At least that makes more sense

Were you given any more information about how to lower your HbA1C or any follow up tests?

Going to the diabetes clinic on Monday when all will be explained, just to follow low carb diet at the moment

More test results, inflammitary markers still raised HbA1C still 48. Back to docs next week. What do these inflammitary markers mean

They mean you have inflammation in your body which is very common in diabetes. There can be a million different causes from arthritis to having the sniffles. You should ask your doctor what she thinks is causing it.

Been to see doctor today she says I have Polymyalgia Rheumatica and possibly Giant cell arteritis have to take steroids that will raise my blood sugar levels will I have to go on tablets or insulin to counteract these?

I don't think there is any way for you to know how your body will react to steroids until it does. If your blood sugar rises above your normal then it would be time to go back to the doctor to discuss what to do about it. You never know, it might not happen that way at all.
