I was diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic last year and I am currently on holiday in Spain .

I have been feeling very nauseous and dizzy yesterday and today and my sugars are dropping quite quickly.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
I have been trying to increase my water intake I don’t have much of an appetite either

Yes my first time abroad since diagnosis. Feel a bit dizzy and nauseous today .

I have been a bit more active but I am struggling to eat with the nausea . I am sipping on cold water to help the thirst . I have no keytones according to my monitor .

OK - so what are your glucose levels at the moment?

I can't give you direct advice about dosing. I can only tell you that for myself, I normally go down a couple of units on my basal injections (even for summer in the UK) and tweak the ratio for food. The theory is that the body absorbs insulin more easily when we're warm. (I hasten to add that my endocrinologist thinks this is rubbish).

My blood sugar is currently 6.7 . I took it a while ago and it was 8.7 it seems to drop very quickly .

I did reduce my basal insulin by a couple of units as I am not eating as much as usual .

I am really thirsty though so sipping on water and feel a bit dizzy .

my endocrine consultant doesn’t answer if I leave a message

I am just a bit worried with being away from home .

Hi. Those figures are fine and you don't need to worry until you are down to 4.0 and below or into the low 20s although you would want to avoid those extremes. You don't mention your Bolus and whether you are adjusting that as needed for your carb intake. As long as you have enough Basal and Bolus with you whilst away you should be OK on the diabetes front using the meter but obviously it's always possible there is another cause for your nausea.

I did reduce my basal last night by 2 units but I have felt dizzy and nauseous all day today . I have plenty of insulin with me . Just don’t know why my sugars are dropping so quickly and with the nausea .

If you are not eating then is it surprising your BG is low?

Could a few emergency snaks kick you out of what seems to be a vicious circle?

Yes

I had a doctor out earlier who gave me an antisickness injection and advised a plain diet . He thinks I have a mild case of gastroenteritis .
