low carb and kidney disease...

Ken,

Don't mean to correct you, but the sentence you have highlighted in bold, makes no mention of pre-existing kidney disease.

Should this be wrong, maybe it is worth contacting the administrator of the site to correct them on this, and change it to pre-existing, otherwise it is misleading people somewhat.

Nigel.
I have no problem with being corrected at all. We all learn things here, however the medical evidence is what both I and Sue stated.

Personally, I didn't read that article as it saying it CAUSES kidney disease, just that there are links ?
Hence what we posted previously.

If you think it is ambiguous we will contact the Administrator for you. If it needs changing then I am sure it will be.

I have looked for evidence for increased protein intake causing kidey disease and found precisely none. All available evidence appears to point at a combination of elevated glucose and insulin levels instead.
As a small personal experiment, I can vouch for lower carb, increased protein diets actually increasing my eGFR over the past few years and I know others who are finding a similar effect.

Thanks Sue,

Certainly needs clarification, any newbies looking at the site may be put off from low-carbing altogether when reading that sentence. As you know from your own experience, and as I do, eating a diet of high protein isn't always necessary when cutting back on the carbs in your diet, it is a matter of personal preference!
