Hi there, i have just joined the site as i am interested in trying to lower my carb intake. Is anyone following a low carb diet and if so does it help?
Thanks Saz
Hello!
I eat 20 g or less per day and that I how I can manage my insulin without spiking and dipping best. Low carb helps me best but we are all different and we all have different bs goals.
I wouldn't call myself a "hardcore" LCer, but it does take the edge off the peaks & troughs..
I do in the region of 80g. Sometimes less..
So in some respects I don't come near "touching the sides" of a "moderate" carb intake..
I do cut out a lot of the hazardous "usual suspects"..
Basal testing & getting the background level right is key.
I'm still fully hypo aware, but the sweaty mess of old is gone regarding symptoms on a sharp steep drop. The clues now are in the eyes. You could say I have my own "heads up display" as opposed to looking instantly like a "junkie" to the general public?
Quicker & easier to treat too!
But that's just my story...
There are plenty of recipes on here to indulge in. Good luck..
Hi,
We average about 30g carbs a day with my 5 year old daughter. Avoiding the usual cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes, high carb fruits etc has made her blood sugar levels much more predictable and manageable.
I low carb for breakfast and lunch. Evening time I'm more sensitive to insulin so can up my carb intake.
I was a strict low carber i.e. 30g per day for almost 3 years and it's very restrictive , I actually found my A1C improved (slightly) when I upped my carbs.
I've added Pizza and fish n' chips to my evening menu recently (in moderation). You should take some time to experiment and what works best for you.
I've been very low carb for around three years, in the 20-30g/day range and find control much easier, but even moderately reduced carbs could help with your control. It's best to find a level that is sustainable and works for you - maybe reduce your carbs a bit a see how you get on.
I have been low carbing for 2 years now. It is restrictive but boy it is worth if for those lovely straight lines on your monitor! I try to be under 30g a day but that is tough and needs lots of pre planning especially as my husband is not a low carber. Ironically, he has lost weight on this and I have not lost much! And he only low carbs in the evening as I cook and he has no choice. go for it and find what works for you. There is tons of help and advise on this site.
Good luck
