Hi All

Just one question about reducing my carb intake. I was only diagnosed last week and my bg levels have been mid to high teens.. My question is what is the important carb figure to look at ? the actual carb figure or the one that "sugars".. Want to reduce my carb intake to around 70 ish to hopefully bring my levels down.. Your opinions as always would be appreciated.

Chris.

Chris.

Sue posted in your 'Newly Diagnosed' thread with all this information. It is the TOTAL carbs as this includes sugars.

I think it is total carbs, but not sure. Maybe one of the more experienced members will know.

Chris,

Sugar is just a carb that gets converted to glucose immediately. So if you eat something that has "15g carbs, of which 5g sugar" it means that the 5g sugar will convert to glucose and be absorbed by your blood immediately it reaches your stomach, whereas the other 10g will convert into glucuse more slowly (anything from 10 minutes to 2 hours depending on what type of carbohydrate it is).
