Evening all!

Just wondering about this.....read a few comments here and the odd bit elsewhere suggesting levels can sometimes go up because of low very low carb eating, but don't quite get why that is, and would love any thoughts on this. ( Sorry, useless at inserting helpful links!). I've got mine down now to ranging between late 5s and late 6s, very occasional 7.1, but,for a period of about 6 weeks before that they dropped down consistently to say average of 5.6.

Not sure why they have gone up, am still eating same level of low carb, say around 40g, so just wondering actually if I should try eating more carbs - but that seems to go against all the good low carb advice I've read on here and acted on, which overall helped levels come down and loose weight.

Thanks!

Have you increased portion size or the amount of carbohydrate you have been eaten? Protein can have an impact.

Hi andbreathe, I wondered about that, I don't think so, though have stopped daily carb counting but only because I'm in a rhythm now of eating same low carb food. But maybe I should start counting again All the weight I lost has stayed off, so thought I was kind of into maintenance.

Stopped eating nuts as got fed up with them so maybe I'm missing those!

There is a phenomenon called "physiological insulin resistance". There are many web articles about it, but here are a couple of the more user friendly ones:

My fasting BG was always on the high side despite normal A1c and post prandial readings. Since I've been doing intermittent fasting, my fasting BG has now dropped to normal levels.

Some foods which have zero carbs or low scores on the Glycemic Index, can score quite high on the Insulin Index i.e. they raise insulin. This isn't helpful if you have insulin resistance or are trying to lose weight.

According to the Dairy Council website, milk, for example, contains 9.7g of lactose (milk sugar) per 200ml glass. The proteins in milk also get a high score on the Insulin Index.

Hi All
I have had Type 2 for 7 years. For the last 2 weeks been on the HFLC diet. Lost 4kilos. Taking 1500 metformin. My BS range between 8 - 10 most days since starting the diet. Eat no carbs and eat high fat as per the diet for 90 days. Wondering why my sugar levels are not dropping. Anyone have experience of this diet? Many thanks.
