Low carb for beginners

Looks like this thread has been 'stickied' rather than the new one I'm still waiting to post while Giverny is around to do it. Maybe I should just go for it anyway ...

@sanguine Yes just go for it - it can be stickied later. AFAIK nothing actually has to start off as a sticky to be so.

Actually I totally agree with you, but there are also some people who will go the whole hog and overstuff themselves, believing they've been given license to do so, which is really what I was on about.

:) you are absolutely right. my problem apart from being carb intolerant is that i can actually consume loads of fat particularly in soup. tried this some months back when i was having two small bowls for lunch and dinner of some fantastic beef/marrow/fat soup which i thought was ok. on the last day, i actually measured the amount of visible fat in the soup and i was consuming a whopping 60gms of fat per bowl. (and i was surprised that i wasn't losing weight ;)). so, i suppose it's all relative.

Yes. someone said they liked butter on cheese and I thought it sounded nice and I got addicted!!! no loss!

The concept of having only food in my cupboard that would keep my levels low really appeals, so I could take less medication, and maybe even see the day where Im just maintaining my health with diet. Good post folks.

as a side note..my non fasting triglyceride reading was 2.4 (approx 212). Fasting reading a week later was 1.4 (124). this is the highest recorded since even my "evil" ;) sugar filled days. and as expected inversely my HDL dropped to 1.1 (42).

almost zero carbs in my diet. i feel that i am not consuming that much fat BUT i suppose the bulk of it is coming from butter (roughly 5 tablespoons daily) and that is raising my TG levels. so, i am probably going to cut back or switch to more olive oil. and possibly start walking as that is supposed to help bring down TG.

my point is, even fat has threshold levels based on each individual & there should be close supervision of blood markers whilst doing LCHF.
